Supporting 20 Children with Disabilities in DRC

By FERDINAND CITO | CORDINATOR

1. Background and Rationale

In the Democratic Republic of the Congo, children living with disabilities are among the most vulnerable. They face a combination of challenges including extreme poverty, social stigma, limited access to healthcare, and exclusion from the education system. In many communities, disability is still poorly understood, which leads to isolation of children and increased hardship for their families.
This project was born from this reality and from a strong desire to respond in a practical, humane, and sustainable way.

2. Project Overview

The project “Assisting 20 Disabled Children in the DR Congo” aims to sustainably improve the living conditions of 20 children with disabilities. It combines an immediate response to their essential needs with a long-term approach focused on social inclusion, education, and family empowerment.

3. Project Objectives

  • Improve the quality of life of 20 children with disabilities
  • Facilitate access to healthcare services and specialized equipment
  • Promote inclusive and accessible education
  • Reduce stigma related to disability within communities
  • Strengthen the psychosocial and economic capacities of families

4. Beneficiaries

  • Direct beneficiaries: 20 children with disabilities
  • Indirect beneficiaries: their families, local communities, and partner schools

5. Planned Activities

  • Identification of beneficiary children and assessment of their needs
  • Provision of adaptive equipment and access to medical care
  • Support for school enrollment and retention in inclusive schools
  • Organization of community awareness and sensitization campaigns
  • Psychosocial support and economic assistance to families

The project is currently in the phase of identifying trainers and learners. Full implementation is scheduled to begin in November 2025.

6. Project Budget

  • Total budget: USD 15,000
  • Funds raised to date: USD 1 through collaboration with GlobalGiving

Although the amount raised so far is symbolic, this partnership represents a major step forward. It strengthens the project’s credibility and gives us confidence that, through collective mobilization, the funding goal will be achieved.

7. Expected Results and Impact

  • Noticeable improvement in the well-being and autonomy of the children
  • Better access to education and healthcare services
  • Increased capacity of families to care for and support their children
  • Reduced stigma and stronger social acceptance
  • Long-term inclusion and improved socio-economic opportunities

8. Partnership and Credibility

The collaboration with GlobalGiving is a key pillar of this project. It ensures transparency, international visibility, and donor confidence. Thanks to this partnership, we are confident that the project will reach its objectives and generate meaningful impact on the ground.

9. Call to Donors

Every contribution matters. Behind every donation is a child gaining the right to learn, receive care, and dream of a better future. We sincerely invite all donors, partners, and supporters to join us in this high-impact humanitarian action. Together, we can give these 20 children a real chance to live with dignity and build their future.

10. Acknowledgements

We express our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has already contributed, directly or indirectly, to this project. Special thanks to GlobalGiving for its trust and support. We also thank current and future donors for their solidarity. Your support is changing lives, one child at a time.
