Vital Support for 20 Children with Disabilities

By FERDINAND CITO | CORDINATOR

Context and Justification

In the Democratic Republic of the Congo, children with disabilities are among the most vulnerable and often the most forgotten. Marginalized by society, denied access to appropriate education, medical care, and basic services, these children are trapped in a cycle of exclusion and poverty. Perceptions of disability remain deeply rooted in prejudice, reinforcing stigma within communities themselves.

Many families, already facing severe hardship, lack both the financial means and psychosocial support needed to provide their children with even the most basic conditions for development. This project stems from an urgent observation: without targeted intervention, these children will remain invisible, deprived of dignity and fundamental rights.

Project Objectives

  • Provide 20 children with disabilities with specialized equipment (wheelchairs, crutches, prosthetics, etc.) tailored to their specific needs.
  • Facilitate access to appropriate healthcare, including medical consultations, regular follow-ups, and essential medication.
  • Promote inclusive education by supporting the adaptation of partner schools to accommodate children with disabilities.
  • Raise community awareness to reduce discrimination and foster acceptance of children with disabilities in society.
  • Support families through psychosocial and economic assistance (counseling, guidance, small-scale daily support).
  • Promote the empowerment of families and children for sustainable and inclusive socio-economic development.

Key Activities

  • Distribution of adapted equipment to the beneficiary children.
  • Implementation of regular medical consultations and referrals to healthcare facilities.
  • Training for teachers on inclusive practices and adaptation of school facilities.
  • Organization of community awareness sessions (meetings, radio broadcasts, testimonials).
  • Psychosocial support for families: support groups, home visits, referral to available assistance.
  • Basic economic support (micro-assistance tailored to family needs).

Expected Impact

Through this initiative, 20 children with disabilities will receive comprehensive support that respects their rights and dignity. The project aims to create lasting change by reducing stigma and laying the foundations for a more inclusive society.

This support will not only lead to tangible improvements in their quality of life, but also send a powerful message: every child matters, regardless of their disability.

Overall Budget Forecast

The total project budget amounts to USD 15,000, covering the cost of specialized equipment, medical expenses, awareness activities, family support, and implementation logistics.
Thanks to our partnership with GlobalGiving, we are confident in our ability to reach this goal.
