Celebrating diversity and inclusion...

By Scott Beale | Founder & CEO

Atlas Corps Celebrates Diversity & Inclusion
Atlas Corps Celebrates Diversity & Inclusion

Hello!

Thank you for playing a key role in supporting Atlas Corps in 2018. Last year, we focused our organizational efforts around the theme of empowering women globally. During the year, we engaged 52 new women in the Fellowship—in fact, 60% of our Fellows are female. In addition, our Fellows hosted discussion panels, wrote blogs, and engaged in conversations around the topic. It all culminated with our Empower Women Globally Gala on December 1, 2018.

In 2019, our intention is to focus on diversity and inclusion. We will update you as we develop activities and outreach throughout the year. The topic is timely and resonates well with our diverse network of Fellows and Hosts. In fact, a Fellow recently wrote a blog post about this topic: http://bit.ly/AtlasCorpFellowDiversityBlog. Here is a highlight:

"The world today is undergoing its biggest transformation, over the last few years, it has become accustomed to the need for acceptance and empathy and equality. However, we are also living in a world where there has been resistance to openness and inclusion….As designers, we do more than just live in this world, we create experiences that directly impact the lives of others and ourselves….we need to ask and answer the question of “what can I do today, as a designer, to contribute at a more diverse industry and a more inclusive environment?"          -Laura (Colombia, Class 30, Host: Atlas Corps)

Today is the opportunity for us to embrace our role as “designers” of our world. Atlas Corps was shaped by you and the many members of our community. It is truly inspiring to see what we accomplish when individuals unite under the common goal of advancing positive social change in our world.

Thank you and wishing the best for 2019,

Scott (and the Atlas Corps Team)

P.S. Special invite for April 1: Join our virtual discussion! Once again, Atlas Corps is partnering with American Express to host the American Express Leadership Academy Global Alumni Summit 2019! This year marks the fifth year of the Summit and the first time the Summit be held in Washington, DC. The Summit brings together approximately 100 Alumni of American Express Leadership Academies and representatives from partner organizations. A highlight of this Summit is the Livestream discussion, which is open to the public, that will take place on Monday, April 1, 3:30 PM EDT. The discussion features Bill Drayton of Ashoka and Stacy Palmer of The Chronicle of Philanthropy as they discuss Engaging All: Strategies for Thriving in Complexity.
