Imkaan Welfare Organization is introducing a Coding to the stateless children of Machar Colony. Coding is a basic literacy in the digital age, and it is important for kids to be able to work with and understand technology. With no opportunities for growth in the community, this project focuses on providing children aged 5 - 15 years a platform to learn and expand knowledge.
Machar Colony comprises of the Bengali and Burmese community who are stateless i.e. do not have the nationality of any country. The community members are unable to avail benefits in health and education available through the Government or other private institutions. The fear of discrimination and extortion has limited to movement of community members and with the identity being a prerequisite for admissions in various institutions, it is difficult for children to enhance learning.
Khel, a learning and recreational project of Imkaan has been able to provide traditional education through its holistic approach and development through sports. By introducing a digital component and the concept of Coding, Imkaan aims to create opportunities of learning and growth for the younger generation who are not able to participate in learning activities due to a lack of identification a prerequisite in most institutions.
By collaborating with a like-minded organization which will provide services to teach coding to kids in the form of courses spread over the year, Imkaan Welfare Organization will look for employment/internship opportunities for children who are able to take the learned skill forward and apply it in the professional world. This will help in creating an environment of change and hope in a stateless community ignored by the government due to ethinicity.
