Thanks to your support, the Aventureros program was able to hire a new full-time team of motivated educators that is looking to create a more complete program of young leaders and amazing explorers. Please meet GermánParedes - Aventureros Program Coordinator, and Salma Macias - Aventureros Instructor.Germán’s experience in the study of the relationship between humans and nature and outdoor activities, paired with a multidisciplinary team of instructors, allow him to develop a program that shows the Aventureros what they are capable of, always questioning (for good) the ways they do things and to never quit learning. Salma has been volunteering for the last seven years for different organizations related to environmental education and ocean conservation. This has developed her passion for these topics and has equipped her with the skills to be the field instructor for Aventureros and the Vermilion Sea Institute (VSI). This new team is highly qualified, motivated and passionate, and we are thrilled to have them on our team!
With the new team, the Aventureros have been busy exploring a variety of new topics, including: climate change, human anatomy, marine mammals, entrepreneurship and art. Each week they end with a “super activity” that gets them out of the classroom. During March, members of the VSI team traveled to the field station and led a week on “Marine Mammals.” The kids learned about different marine mammal species and research techniques. For their “super activity,” they conducted a survey from the beach outside the field station (picture).
In recent weeks, the kids have ventured out into the water! They are participating in swimming, snorkeling and water safety lessons, as well as stand-up paddle boarding (pictured).
We continue to be overwhelmed with gratitude by the amount of support we have received for the Aventurero program. Every day, these kids inspire us with their energy, desire to learn and passion for their environment. Together, we are empowering the conservation leaders of tomorrow. Thank you for your continued support!
