Help Ailana stay well!

Ailana
A year ago, our project helped little Ailana with paying for bone marrow transplantation in a hospital in Turkey. She comes from Kazakhstan where she was first diagnosed with leukemia when she was 3. Ailana was hospitalized for a year, then discharged home for another year of maintenance chemotherapy. Another year of monthly checkups followed, but unfortunately Ailana relapsed in late 2023. Locally, chemotherapy was her only option, but in Turkey she was offered a possibility to undergo bone marrow transplantation from a donor that would improve her chances of staying relapse-free. Ailana's parents chose to do all the could to bring Ailana to Turkey for better treatment.
In February 2024 Ailana successfully underwent bone marrow transplantation, recovered and returned home with her parents. Now she will need to travel to Turkey every year for follow up examinations to ensure that leukemia does not return. Since Ailana's family pays out of pocket for all of her medical costs, they need our assistance again. It is critical that post-transplant patients stay on a schedule and don't delay the care they need. We will be very grateful for your support of Ailana that ensures she regains her health!

Help Al-Ansar access lifesaving treatment!

Al-Ansar is a 3-year-old boy from Kazakhstan. In summer 2024 he was diagnosed with leukemia after falling ill. The news was a shock to his parents, who took him to Turkey to verify the diagnosis. Unfortunately, it was confirmed, and in addition, further classified as high-risk due to the presence of genetic dislocations. High-risk leukemia patients are typically referred for bone marrow transplantation to prevent disease recurrence and resulting resistance to medications. However, Kazakhstan is still in early stages of developing its own bone marrow donor registry, training its personnel to perform bone marrow transplantations and providing quality patient care. For these reasons many parents choose to take their children for treatment in nearby countries, such as Turkey, to ensure their kids have access to modern cancer care.
Al-Ansar's parents brought him to a hospital in Antalya where he began undergoing chemotherapy. Once he achieves remission, he will need to undergo bone marrow transplant - either from one of his parents, or an unrelated donor, if a matching one can be found. He has a long road ahead of him, and the treatment will be costly. Our project was able to support Al-Ansar thanks to your donations, and his family is very grateful! We are hopeful that he will overcome leukemia and return to normal happy chilhood like other kids of his age. Thank you so much for your support of our project! We hope you choose to donate again to patients like Al-Ansar and other brave kids who need our help!

Support for little Akhmad

Akhmad
Akhmad is not even 2 and already he is facing a mortal enemy - acute myeloid leukemia, M5. It is an aggressive subtype of leukemia that is very difficult to treat and carries a poor prognosis. Stem cell transplant is a must with this kind of leukemia that requires aggressive treatment to halt its progression. For seven months Akhmad's treatment stalled as he did not respond to chemotherapy well enough to proceed to transplantation of donor's stem cells. As an extraordinary measure, Akhmad received chemotherapy not typically prescribed to young children - and the risky move paid off. In early March he showed response to chemo and was scheduled for urgent transplantation. It went well, and Akhmad is now recovering and rebuilding his immune system. We were happy to support Akhmad and his family and hope he gets well very soon!
We appreciate your support for our project that helps children like Akhmad! On July 10, starting at 9 am EDT, you can help us raise even more funds thanks to the bonus match opportunity provided by GlobalGiving! The July Bonus Day 2024 campaign will have a Matching Fund of $100,000 (limited to $2,000 per organization).
While funds remain, the following matching structure will apply:
- Donations of $100 - $499 USD will be matched at 20%
- Donations of $500 - $749 USD will be matched at 30%
- Donations of $750 - $1,000 USD will be matched at 40%
We hope you can support us now or on July 10th and help us bring more help to cancer patients in the former Soviet Union!
