Or-Nur Women Interfaith Encounter Group of Haifa met at the Moriah Conservative Synagogue. After not meeting for several months because of the corona we missed each other and wanted to have an encounter. It was still cool and unpleasant outside, and we were looking for a place that would allow an encounter according to the rules of the Ministry of Health. We know the synagogue from encounters in previous years and we were happy to be guests there. We met the rabbi and his family. Since the encounter was held during Woman's Week, we chose the topic of "The Smart Woman."
We began the session with a song by Yael Dekelbaum and her group in Hebrew and Arabic, "The Prayer of the Mothers," after which Rachel read an excerpt from the book "The Tao of Women." The book contains 81 reflections, which show the empowerment and power that women have accumulated in their lives over the centuries in the hope that this wisdom will not be forgotten. This concise and concentrated wisdom amplifies the voices of our grandmothers and their mothers before them. The collection of writings was discovered in 1950 near the Hunan province of China, it was written in a nu-shu language developed by women, who used it to communicate with each other at a time when society did not allow them to learn to read and write. The participants then addressed the issue of the status of women and their personal feelings.
