This project offers one of the essential basics of health care by installing long-term purification filters to provide more than 40,000 children in pediatric hospitals with clean, safe drinking water.
China's orphaned and hospitalized children suffer acutely from the chronic lack of potable water. In this day and age, with so many resources at our disposal, clean, safe drinking water should no longer be a privilege, but a basic right of every child.
Splash's Children's Hospital Project focuses on installing custom filtration systems that rid the water of 99.99999% of all bacteria and 99.999% of viruses and other pathogens - the single biggest health problem for the children we aid - the very same technology used by global food service providers (like McDonald's) to assure safe water for ice, coffee and beverages.
Children under the age of 5 are disproportionately impacted by the negative consequences of consuming unsafe drinking water. They are much more likely to sicken from harmful bacteria than adults, and less able to recover. And they are even more vulnerable if they are already coping with other illnesses and health challenges. Reliably safe drinking water will dramatically improve the health of hospitalized children in China.
