Dear Friends,
HAPPY NEW YEAR 2018!
Our focus remains firmly on the needs of our orphans. Let me tell you about some of the other things that have happened last yeara) A generous gift enabled us to purchase the GLH farm – 11 acres in Luwero District some miles away from GLH –This is a big asset as we can now do farming. You will remember that we had been loaned land in Masindi 5 acres but our time ended before getting good output and when we wanted to purchase it, the owner wanted much. Farming started straight away and harvesting has already been realised. See some photos attached. Sweet potatoes, Tomatoes
b) Thanks to your continued support our Children were fed with an Improved diet and we have educated our children –They have clearly developed well.
c) I have really been encouraged by advice from an American friend
d) An Australian Friend Visited GLH last year on 14/July/2017 –It was a lovely visit He was able to suggest a plan for our building needs which has started working. He loved and appreciated our children and encouraged us to go for farming too due to increased needs of the children. Sadly, he retired from most of GLH Jobs but we are so grateful for all that was achieved through him.
e) GLV graduated with certificates in practical skills in Tailoring , Hairdressings etc . We got vocational tools through “Tools with a Mission” like Sewing machines , carpentry etc
f) Started on a classroom block building and this continues with a foundation already done
As the children grow their needs change but seem endless? could it be that God is testing our patience for bigger blessings? Please don’t get tired with us until we see his Glory. We are urgently looking for;
1) Feeding supporting for this year 2018 –$40 will feed and Educate one orphan for a month.
2) We are looking for Institutional regular funding of $ 1,150 monthly for 5 years to be able to maintain our support and finally get to self-sustainability.
3) We are building our classroom block and we hope that God will provide –This classroom is expected to be used in April for a second term and will be used in asking for Examination centre number which is highly needed for our Primary seven students.
4) We need Volunteers to come down and help with building presumably Plumber, Electrician and builder (Three Volunteers will help) the classroom building need these services. We have just finished with the Foundation and now we need to raise walls and those columns then Roofing. We would be grateful if we got these Volunteer on March/O1/2018 for the work straight away. Our foundation has been allowed one month to dry up.
Blessings,
James

ARRIVAL OF GLV SEWING MACHINES
Dear Friends,
Thank you for the usual support to GLS. God has given us another chance to share about the school progress. 1 kings 22:4 - Then He turned to Jehoshaphat and asked, “Will you join me in the Battle to recover ramoth gilead?” Perhaps, GLH is has a similar question re- will you join us in the Battle to have a next classroom please. We continue to praise the lord for the support made to date and our prayers is that we start on the build by December, 2017.
We have made good improvement in classroom learning exercise –Teachers have taken different professional development courses /meetings- James has used his International school teaching experience to help teachers develop the skills for better delivery to students.
Our GLH farm is doing well – We have planted maize, sweet potatoes… we do hope that enough food will be produced for the children to feed on. I am glad to report to you that our older students are fully involved in the farm to produce their own food.
We are in our last term of our school year. Our Nursery children will be graduating to primary one and as per our culture here. We are always thrilled with this wonderful experience making our children feel honored in their struggle to the next classroom level. We are always happy welcoming any visitor from outside there to officiate the function. Children will be promoted to different class levels and so children are reading hard to be promoted to the next class. Could you be knowing any missionary group outside there visiting Uganda towards the end of the year please? Would kindly pass Via GLS.
We are thrilled that TWAM –a Christian organization has donated Sewing machines to GLV and some carpentry training kits. GLH made an application for these machines in 2016 and God has answered our prayers now. We really thank all of you who followed up to ensure the delivery of these machines. Clearly our children vocational skills will be boosted hence better future for them.
Our Prayer request include;- Next classroom Block funder , Farm house to be built because its approval has been finalized. Meadows and Jenifer to have a safe Visit where they are now (So far there are no issues ! Hallelujah)
Enjoy photos attached – Sweet potatoes garden, GLV children farming and TWAM machines arrival.
Blessings,
Justus

GLS FOOTBALL TEAM THAT COMPETED
Dear Friends,
We thank each one of you for your continued Support. The School term is nearly coming to an end in the next 30 days. Children have developed different skills like Literacy, English, Numbers … GLS has participated in Zonal school competitions and we placed number 5 out of 18 schools –some of our children have been selected to further compete at different levels with in the country. With the school playground in place, we hope to train our children well in Athletics.
We are thrilled to Welcome our Australian Friend to GLS and he is trying to think more options on having a next classroom/Hall for next year as required by Ministry of Education-Options in place are combining with other schools however, this has not worked for us in the past but we thank God for the similar thought again.
On 15-07- 2017, we had a meeting with the Council Planning officer on the New Block site. He encouraged us to press on with a phased building approach to the New Classroom Block and in between changing our drawings to suit this approach, and heavy showers we met a potential builder Yassin to discuss the project. The plan is just to build the latrine block and the ground floor assembly room. I attach a partly finished PDF so that you can see how things are developing.
We have our kind offer of £10k, ~ 45M Ugandan shillings to finance things. By 26 July we should get a final cost price together. We will also cross check his price using the same cost engineer who costed the original project.
Also on the agenda will be a borehole and tank for water for the site, including the new latrine block. There is also additional work to be done on the staff houses to ensure that there are 2 married quarters. David will be retiring from the project and we deeply thank him for his efforts towards GLH building needs and may God bless his new steps.
Please Pray for
A-Continued safety and health of all involved
B-GLH, GLS and GLV to live up to their names
C- Finance to do a phased building approach to the New Classroom Block and that the Ministry of Education will give us Examination Centre.
Blessings,
James (Project Leader)
