This project will build and maintain a free, inclusive community library in Amman with the Institute for Critical Thought. Featuring 7,000+ donated books in multiple languages and genres, with a rare emphasis on the critical humanities, the library will also serve youth, refugees, and learners with disabilities. Filling a gap in Jordan's limited public libraries, it will be a safe hub for reading, study, dialogue, and youth-driven programs that foster lifelong learning and opportunity.
In Jordan, public libraries are scarce and often inaccessible. Students, youth, and community members - especially refugees, young women, and learners with disabilities - lack safe, welcoming spaces with high-quality books and study resources. This gap limits literacy, critical thinking, and opportunities for education and civic engagement. As direct beneficiaries of the library, thousands of people will have the opportunity for personal growth, ultimately transforming their wider community.
The library will provide free, inclusive access to 7,000+ multilingual books across genres, including the humanities, social sciences, and youth literature rarely available in Jordan. With accessible facilities, trained volunteers, and a dedicated librarian, it will host reading circles, workshops, and youth-led programs, creating a vibrant hub for equitable learning and community dialogue. In a region marked by complex crises, the library will be an oasis for individual and communal growth.
The library will nurture lifelong readers and thinkers, empowering scholars and practitioners to persist in study, succeed in higher education, and engage in civic life. Over 2,000 people annually - including students, refugees, and lifelong learners - will benefit from sustained access to books, study spaces, and programs. As a volunteer-driven, community-owned hub, it will cultivate new generations of readers and thinkers, while anchoring future critical thought initiatives in Jordan.
