The Bulgarian Creative Writing Competition in English aims to encourage and expand the creative thinking among Bulgarian students, as well as to enhance their English language writing skills. The goal is to create their own unique pieces of writing and to think "outside the box". Each year more than 4000 students from the whole country take part.
The Bulgarian education system has proven inadequate in providing engaging and productive tools for English language learning. There are not enough teacher training opportunities and extracurricular activities for all interested students. Additionally, the lack of supplemental materials and educational resources is holding back the development of English language instruction. The problem is countrywide, although most acutely felt in underdevelopment communities.
Participation in the competition will strengthen the poise and communication skills of more than 4000 students in their use of the English language. Additionally, the program will have a positive impact on building confidence and encouraging students to express themselves. The project will be beneficial for the English language teachers. They will be provided with interactive classroom tools and innovative educational resources that will aid their efforts to motivate their students to learn.
The competition promotes creativity and inspires students to think "outside the box", which has a long-term effect on their personal, academic and career development. The project will have an overall impact on the effectiveness and quality of the English language instruction in Bulgarian schools.
