Nigeria's population of over 250 million needs at least 250 cancer treatment centres, according to the World Health Organization. Right now, the country has only three, and just two are working. This project will help set up and equip community-based cancer centres that offer affordable diagnosis, chemotherapy, and counseling for 5,000 low-income patients each year.
Cancer care in Nigeria is out of reach for most people. With only a few working centres, patients travel hundreds of kilometers for treatment. Many abandon care due to high costs, distance, and lack of reliable equipment. The shortage of skilled staff and modern facilities continues to increase deaths that could have been prevented with early and steady treatment.
This project will build and equip small, community-based cancer treatment centres across major Nigerian regions. Each centre will provide affordable screening, diagnosis, chemotherapy, and counseling. Local healthcare workers will be trained to operate and maintain equipment, reducing downtime and ensuring patients receive care closer to home.
Setting up these centres will allow thousands of low-income Nigerians to access timely cancer care each year. The project will cut travel costs, encourage early diagnosis, and lower death rates. With continued operation, it will strengthen local healthcare capacity, ease the strain on major hospitals, and bring hope to communities that have endured years of neglect.
