Challenge

The financial support provided by the State Government is grossly inadequate to produce an enriching learning experience. The classrooms and laboratories are overcrowded with approximately ninety students in each science class or at a laboratory session. The number of teaching and support staff is inadequate to serve the students' need for an enriching curriculum. Teachers continued education is suboptimal. The school buildings are decades old and in some cases, dilapidated and crumbling.

Solution

Ibadan Grammar School Old Students' Association, North America, wants to improve on the physical infrastructure we have provided through the construction, refurbishment, modernization and equipping of the Science laboratories by building a new Science block of twelve "smart classrooms" accommodating no more than 35 students per class, outfitted with teaching walls, integrated technology and Wifi in addition to a conference room/science library and outdoor learning space.

Long-Term Impact

Majority of Nigeria's 200 million people are youths under the age of 20 years. The development and realization of this project will produce roundly educated science and technology students who will be leaders in the education and development of Nigeria's youthful but potentially productive population thus leading to the alleviation of poverty through education and employability. Eventually, it is anticipated that this will translate into a viable and stable emerging largest economy in Africa.
