Project GlobalGiving #73335: ''CEPROSH: Photovoltaic System for Sustainability''.

Organization ID: #104508

Report: November, 2025 - February, 2026.

I-                   INTRODUCTION.

The Centro de Promoción y Solidaridad Humana (CEPROSH), Inc., is currently facing high electricity costs in the Dominican Republic, representing a significant financial burden that threatens the sustainability of its essential services.

Its heavy reliance on the national power grid forces the organization to allocate a considerable portion of its budget to electricity payments instead of investing those resources in programs serving vulnerable communities. This situation limits its operational capacity and puts at risk the care provided to more than 2,000 people who depend on its services.

By generating its own clean energy, CEPROSH will be able to reduce electricity costs by 80-90%, decreasing its dependence on the national grid. These savings will be redirected to essential health services and community programs. The implementation of a photovoltaic system will strengthen the institution’s financial stability, ensure the continuity of critical programs, and consolidate a more sustainable and resilient operational model in the long term.

For this reason, the project ‘’CEPROSH: Photovoltaic System for Sustainability’’ was created. This initiative includes the installation of a solar panel system at its facility located at 52 Prof. Juan Bosch Street, corner of Padre Castellanos Street, San Felipe de Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic.

The expected outcomes of this process include:

  • Significant reduction in monthly electricity expenses.
  • Strengthened financial and operational sustainability of CEPROSH.
  • Contribution to climate change mitigation through the use of clean energy.

The Project was created in November 2025, reviewed, and approved by the technical team of the international organization ‘’GlobalGiving’’, becoming a proposal of strong interest to various institutions and members of the platform.

II-                SUMMARY OF RESULTS.

This Project initially included a first quotation for the installation of a 27.00 kWp solar energy system, designed for grid-tied operation with export control (Zero Export). The system included the installation of 45 high-efficiency bifacial monocrystalline solar modules, each with a capacity of 600 Wp, as well as three 8 kW Growatt inverters. In addition, it incorporated a smart monitoring system to allow precise control of energy production and interaction with the public grid.

According to calculations performed using specialized software by the company ‘’Quantumx Energy’’, this system would have the capacity to produce 44,579.20 kWh during its first year of operation. It was also estimated to generate a total of 1,114,480 kWh over the 25-year lifespan of the modules. This initial quotation required an investment of USD 22,140.00.

This project participated in the ‘’GivingTuesday2025’’ campaign, organized by GlobalGiving, through which USD 75.00 was raised. To reach the established goal, an additional USD 22,065.00 was still needed.

Subsequently, ‘’Dream Reach, Inc.’’, a philanthropic foundation based in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, United States, focused on providing grants and funding opportunities across Latin America and the Caribbean, contacted CEPROSH through its Executive Director with the interest of covering 100% of the project’s funding. As part of the process, and updated quotation was requested.

In this second proposal, several technical adjustments were made. The solar energy system increased to 28.80 kWp, including the installation of 48 high-efficiency 600 Wp solar modules and three 8 kW inverters.

With this configuration, the system will be capable of producing 47,556.40 kWh during its first year of operation, with an estimated total generation of 1,188,910 kWh over the 25-year lifespan of the modules.

This second quotation established a total investment of USD 21,166.88. The amount was rounded up, and a total donation of USD 21,500.00 was received. Adding the previously raised USD 75.00, the total funds available for project implementation amount to USD 21,575.00.

III-             IMPACT OF THIS PROJECT AND NEXT STEPS.

The implementation of this project sets an important precedent in the areas of climate change and sustainability within the nonprofit sector. In a context where organizations must strengthen their long-term financial sustainability plans – especially following the closure of programs funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the reduction of international cooperation funds – this initiative represents a strategic and responsible response to emerging challenges.

The installation of the photovoltaic system will address a significant gap in CEPROSH’s operational structure, allowing a greater proportion of resources to be allocated to essential services and programmatic priorities. By using clean energy, the organization will not only reduce operational costs but also minimize its environmental impact, positioning itself as a model for the community of Puerto Plata and the country as a whole.

This process will also foster new proposals at both the national and international levels. CEPROSH will be fully prepared to share best practices, lessons learned, measurable results, and evidence of impact following the implementation of the solar system. In fact, several individuals closely involved in this initiative have expressed interest in learning firsthand about the experience in order to replicate and share it within their own organizations and communities.

CEPROSH formally thanks GlobalGiving for the opportunity provided, which has increased institutional visibility and served as a channel for donors to engage with and show interest in our mission, motivating strategic initiatives such as this one.

We also extend our sincere gratitude to Alexander Gómez and Maury Mendenhall for their contributions through the platform, supporting the continuity of our active programs. In particular, we recognize Maury Mendenhall and Déborah Kaliel, who have been friends, advisors, and steadfast supporters of our projects and achievements.

Once this proposal is reviewed and approved by the appropriate technical team, it will be removed from the platform in order to prioritize other projects and incorporate new high-impact strategic initiatives aligned with the organization’s mission.
