Prevent violence and crime in Mexico through music

El 2023 fue un año muy festivo para MUVI, ya que celebramos 10 años de haber comenzando un sueño, que, por algún tiempo, parecía imposible. Pero gracias a la visión, trabajo y el apoyo de cientos de personas, se concretaron cosas maravillosas durante estos 10 años de trabajo.

Además de esta celebración, este año nos ofreció grandes aprendizajes, aliados y vivencias, las cuales, queremos compartirles las más significativas:

-          Arrancó la Orquesta Sinfónica MUVI El Refugio.

-          Tuvimos la primera convocatoria de emprendimientos de colectivos juveniles, del programa MUVI Emprende, concluyendo con la primer Feria de Emprendimientos Juveniles. Agradeciendo profundamente el apoyo de Cummins.

-          Primera titulación en música de un exalumno MUVI, Oswaldo Banda, licenciado en música con especialidad en cello.

-          Nos presentamos en Villa de la Paz, con un Concierto-homenaje al Lic. José Cerrillo Chowell, gran aliado de MUVI desde 2014.

-          Aplicación de los instrumentos para medir estrés, ansiedad y depresión en las y los alumnos MUVI, con apoyo de la Universidad Pedagógica, campus San Luis Potosí.

Aunque los resultados de este año de trabajo se presentarán en el próximo boletín, quisimos compartirles estos 5 puntos que fueron los más esenciales. Y es que, al cerrar un ciclo (en este caso el año 2023), es muy valioso recapitular lo vivido, aprender de los errores, reconocer los aciertos y agradecer a todas y todos los que hicieron esto posible.

A todas y todos los donantes, tanto madrinas y padrinos, así como las empresas y organizaciones que nos apoyan, queremos agradecer su esfuerzo y amor para hacer realidad MUVI.

También agradecemos a todas las instituciones educativas que han facilitado los espacios y los recursos humanos, tanto en servicio social como en prácticas profesionales, para lograr nuestros objetivos anuales.

A todos las madres y padres de familia, quienes motivan, apoyan y ofrecen los medios necesarios para hacer que sus hijas e hijos puedan ser mejores. Y que confían en que MUVI puede apoyar en este proceso.

A las alumnas y alumnos, por su dedicación, esfuerzo y trabajo para poder estar en MUVI y seguir en su educación regular.

A nuestra mesa directiva, quienes diariamente están buscando los medios necesarios para resolver las circunstancias que se presentan en MUVI, les agradecemos profundamente todo su tiempo, amor, medios y compañía que nos brindan.

A todo nuestro equipo de trabajo: maestras, maestros, coordinadoras, directores musicales, facilitadoras/es comunitarios, equipo de diseño y video, equipo coordinador. Les agradecemos el esfuerzo por cada día hacer mejor su trabajo y tener en mente que estamos transformando al mundo, un músico a la vez.

2023 was a very festive year for MUVI, as we celebrated 10 years of having started a dream, which, for some time, seemed impossible. But thanks to the vision, work and support of hundreds of people, wonderful things were accomplished during these 10 years of work.
In addition to this celebration, this year offered us great learning, allies and experiences, which we would like to share with you the most significant ones:
- The MUVI El Refugio Symphony Orchestra started.
- We had the first call for entrepreneurship of youth groups, the MUVI Emprende program, concluding with the first Youth Entrepreneurship Fair. We are deeply grateful for the support of Cummins.
- First degree in music of a MUVI alumnus, Oswaldo Banda, Bachelor of Music with a major in cello.
- We performed in Villa de la Paz, with a tribute concert to José Cerrillo Chowell, a great ally of MUVI since 2014.
- Application of instruments to measure stress, anxiety and depression in MUVI students, with the support of the Universidad Pedagógica, San Luis Potosí campus.

Although the results of this year of work will be presented in the next newsletter, we wanted to share with you these 5 points that were the most essential. When closing a cycle (in this case the year 2023), it is very valuable to recapitulate what we have experienced, learn from our mistakes, recognize our successes and thank all those who made this possible.

We would like to thank all the donors, both godmothers and godfathers, as well as the companies and organizations that support us, for their effort and love to make MUVI a reality.
We also thank all the educational institutions that have provided the space and human resources, both in social service and professional practices, to achieve our annual objectives.
To all the mothers and fathers who motivate, support and offer the necessary means to help their daughters and sons to be better. And who trust that MUVI can support them in this process.
To the students, for their dedication, effort and work to be able to be in MUVI and continue in their regular education.
To our board of directors, who daily are looking for the necessary means to solve the circumstances that arise in MUVI, we thank you deeply for all your time, love, means and company that you give us.
To all of our staff: teachers, coordinators, music directors, community facilitators, design and video team, and coordinating team. We thank you for your effort to do your work better every day and to keep in mind that we are transforming the world, one musician at a time.

To all of you, we wish you a warm and loving Christmas and a 2024 where your goals and achievements are fulfilled.

Desde el inicio, el objetivo de MUVI no es crear músicos profesionales, sino dotar a jóvenes con habilidades sociales, personales, artísticas y comunitarias con las que puedan ser mejores personas y mejorar la comunidad en donde se encuentran.

Teniendo en mente esta premisa, la permanencia escolar es un indicador importante para conocer el impacto que tenemos en la vida de tantos jóvenes.

Analizando los datos, en MUVI, el 78% de las y los egresados mayores de 18 años, se encuentran estudiando una carrera técnica o universitaria.

Según la Evaluación de Impacto realizada por la Universidad Autónoma de San Luis Potosí, gracias al Modelo de Educación Musical Colaborativa MUVI, las y los jóvenes desarrollan habilidades para la vida, las cuales se concretan en el aumento de los siguientes indicadores:

- Compromiso escolar

- Expectativas y aspiraciones

- Autoeficacia social

- Autoestima

- Autoeficacia y motivación musical

Mientras a nivel nacional, de cada 100 niñas y niños que ingresan a educación básica, sólo 26 logran egresar de alguna licenciatura, de acuerdo con cifras de la Secretaría de Educación Pública (SEP).

Las y los egresados que se encuentran estudiando una carrera técnica o universitaria, están en diferentes áreas: desde medicina, administración, ingenierías, ciencias sociales, humanidades, música, entre otras. Con esto, podemos ver que la música es nuestra herramienta para lograr una transformación social y aunque algunos deciden seguir el camino de la música, mucho otros no. Sin embargo, todas y todos desarrollan habilidades necesarias para alcanzar sus metas.

Después de platicar con las y los exalumnos y comparar los datos con los resultados de la Evaluación de Impacto, nos damos cuenta del gran impacto que tiene MUVI en la vida de tantos jóvenes que comienzan a construir la vida que desean vivir, teniendo clara la importancia de la retribución comunitaria.

From the beginning, MUVI's goal is not to create professional musicians, but to equip young people with social, personal, artistic and community skills with which they can be better people and improve the community in which they find themselves.
With this premise in mind, school retention is an important indicator of the impact we have on the lives of so many young people.

Analyzing the data, at MUVI, 78% of the graduates over 18 years of age are studying a technical or university career.
According to the Impact Evaluation carried out by the Universidad Autónoma de San Luis Potosí, thanks to the MUVI Collaborative Music Education Model, young people develop life skills, which are reflected in the increase of the following indicators:
- School engagement
- Expectations and aspirations
- Social self-efficacy
- Self-esteem
- Musical self-efficacy and motivation

According to figures from the Ministry of Public Education (SEP), of every 100 boys and girls who enter basic education, only 26 graduate from a bachelor's degree.

The graduates who are studying a technical or university career are in different areas: from medicine, administration, engineering, social sciences, humanities, music, among others. With this, we can see that music is our tool to achieve social transformation, and although some decide to follow the path of music, many others do not.

After talking with the alumni and comparing the data with the results of the Impact Evaluation, we realize the great impact MUVI has on the lives of so many young people who are beginning to build the life they want to live, being clear about the importance of community retribution.
