Exciting news from Jugando Aprendo!

By Eveli Leyva | Project Assistant

Dear Supporters,

These last months have brought about exiting changes, enthusiasm and optimism for Jugando Aprendo and our Ludoteca. The boys and girls regularly attending our school support program have improved their engagement and their grades. Their mothers are very happy about it and thankful for the support their kids receive. They told us that they do not have books at home and the homework assigned by teachers is too hard for them, since they never finished primary school.

19 of our children's mothers are actively participating in workshops carried out by our psychologist, Jennifer. At the Ludoteca they can be heard and feel safe enough to share their emotions and experiences. We were able to motivate and engage those mothers who want a change for their children and families. Jennifer managed to give orientation to these mothers to help them value themselves as women and make their own decisions.

Four months ago we started working with 12 adolescents in child domestic work. This is a new and gratifying challenge for us. These adolescents face a different set of problems, such as those brought about by growing up in their environment. Most of them face teen pregnancy and "pandillaje" (the influence or recruitment by gangs). Ana María Ruekner, another psychologist from AGTR-La Casa de Panchita is assessing us in this new task. She has experience in working with adolescents and we are learning a lot about how to assist and guide teenagers through the challenges they tell us they need help with.

This month we celebrate our 6th anniversary and we are very proud to be able to carry on with our work. We all want a change and we are committed to achieving it. We know we still have a lot to do and we are going to keep pursuing our objectives and dreams of a better future for our children and adolescents!

All this is made possible by your generosity!
Thank you for your continued support!

Sincerely,

Eveli Leyva
