Thank you so much for your help for the children and young people at our projects, by supporting CHW through our page on GlobalGiving. Your kindness is making such a positive impact in their lives!

Since our last report, at the end of 2023, the donations you have given through this page have helped children and young people at projects in each of the five countries where we work: Argentina, China, Ghana, Romania and South Africa!

Below is more information about how you have helped the children.

Argentina

Your help went towards supporting babies and children at a residential centre in Cordoba, Argentina. The children are aged from 0 to 6 years old and have been removed from their homes due to abuse and neglect. They receive specialised care, according to their different needs. Thank you for making it possible to assist with this work.

Another of our partner organisations in Argentina, Fundación de Cordobesa de Equinoterapia, resumed its activities in March, when the summer holidays ended in Argentina. This project provides horse-assisted therapy sessions to people with disabilities. CHW's supporters have sponsored sessions for a child there each year. In 2024, your help is supporting an eight-year-old boy with Down Syndrome. He really likes the horses and he will benefit greatly from this form of therapy.

The horse-assisted therapy helps with movement and posture and so much more. The founder of the project, Verónica, said that it also helps with functional activities for life and helps the children to develop in so many other areas too. She thanked CHW's supporters for their help for the children at this project!

China

Your support made it possible to sponsor educational materials for the next semester for the children at Stepping Stone's educational programmes. This will assist migrant children in Shanghai and children from under-resourced schools in rural areas of the country.

In response to your kind contributions, a team member at Stepping Stones wrote: "Thank you for the generous donation... and for your continuous support. CHW does such great work to help us and other organisations to make a difference to the lives of children."

At CHW, we are so grateful to each of you who support our work, because you are the ones who make everything possible!

Ghana

The contributions we received also went towards our student support project for young people at New Life International in Ghana. This past semester, three students were helped by these funds. They are studying: Construction Technology and Management; Hospitality Management and Fashion Design.

As part of an update on the progress of one of the students, New Life's director Derrick wrote: "This Educational CHW sponsorship programme has indeed empowered a lot of children, giving many light in the darkness. Thanks to Trustees of CHW and all donors and supporters."

Whilst the students are at a stage where they feel self-conscious for their photos to be included in public updates online, we are able to share with you some photos of the younger children at New Life. Our last report was sent to you just before Christmas, and your kind contributions had again made it possible to sponsor places at New Life's Christmas party for 100 children! The children really enjoyed themselves and this party has given them some lovely memories to look back on when they think of the holidays!

Romania

We are so grateful for the contributions we have received to support supplies for Refugiu's food programme in Romania. Over the past couple of years, the prices have been rising and we have needed more support to maintain the same level of assistance for the families Refugiu helps. Thank you for making sure the children and families could still receive food!

Refugiu has recently asked us for support for children in a second village, so your contributions will now be assisting families with food in two villages in Brasov County, Romania.

Robert, the Head of Refugiu, expressed his thanks to CHW's supporters for the help with the food supplies.

South Africa

We also work with another food programme, which The Future Factory is involved with in Cape Town. Your donations have meant that we could continue to support the provision of food for children and families in under-resourced communities around the city.

The Future Factory's founder, Anne, has thanked each person who is part of CHW for this ongoing help.

Some years ago, The Future Factory introduced us to a creche in Cape Town, called Rooikappie. We were able to partner with them too. Rooikappie recently needed a new washing machine and your support enabled CHW to fund this for the creche. The Principal, Faranaaz, was very grateful for your kindness.

GlobalGiving Campaigns and Events

We are so glad that you chose to support the children and young people we work with through our page on GlobalGiving! We want to share with you some news related to GlobalGiving too!

From 8 to 12 April, GlobalGiving will be running its "Little By Little" campaign, where donations of up to £39 (or $50) will be matched by 50% whilst matching funds last. If you would like to make a contribution during that time, your kindness will go extra far! You can choose any of our project pages to donate to during the campaign.

In case you are interested, we have set up a special project for this campaign, with the aim of sponsoring places for 25 teachers to be trained at ORT SA CAPE's programmes in South Africa. We are always happy to give back to the GlobalGiving community and it was good to have two opportunities to do so over the past couple of months. Catherine from CHW was invited to be a campaign coach. Along with other coaches, she assisted with sessions for different organisations on GlobalGiving, in the run up to the Little By Little Campaign. It was also very nice to have been invited to join two members of GlobalGiving staff to run an in-person session for teenagers in London. These students, aged 16 and 17, are from the USA and are studying in the UK for a semester. GlobalGiving was giving a session on crowdfunding, as the students had to develop a social venture project. CHW was honoured to be asked to join in!

Thank you for helping children around the world!

A big thank you for supporting children and young people around the world, through CHW's project page on GlobalGiving. You are making such an amazing difference!

Below are some updates on how you have been helping children and teenagers in Romania with school items and warm winter clothes, as well as how you have supported children in China and South Africa with educational resources!

Making sure children in Romania could stay warm this winter

Refugiu assists children and families in underprivileged communities, with their basic needs, such as food, and also carries out educational activities. Refugiu has recently extended its work to a second village.

Your help made it possible to give 12 children and teenagers at Refugiu's projects, warm winter coats and boots. These were given to the children just before the first snowfall and we are truly grateful for your help with this. The Romanian winters can be very harsh.

Robert, the Head of Refugiu wrote that the children were all "so happy with the coats and boots. Thank you... it was possible, because of you!"

At the beginning of the school year, your generosity also made it possible for these children to have clothes, shoes, socks, school bags, exercise books and stationery.

Supporting children in a South African creche with their worksheets

Mana Preschool, in South Africa, grew out of an existing non-profit organisation that serves women, by helping them to develop craft and business skills, so they can support their families. The women were bringing their small children to the project with them and so Mana Preschool was established, to make sure that these children had access to a good quality early education.

Mana Preschool needed a new printer for the children's worksheets, as well as for reports and assessments. Thank you for making it possible to help! You can see a few photos of the children with their worksheets. There is also a link to a video clip of the children doing some painting on the printed worksheets.

Amanda from Mana Preschool expressed her gratitude for this support.

Amanda also nominated CHW for a Catalyst 2030 award and we were so honoured to be a finalist. It means a lot to us that one of our partner organisations put CHW forward for this!

Giving educational resources to migrant children in China

Stepping Stones runs educational programmes for migrant children in Shanghai, as well as for children in rural parts of the country. Your support made it possible to sponsor resources for educational programmes held during the term time and over the holidays during 2023.

Stepping Stones's regular classes include English, digital literacy, and Social and Emotional Learning (SEL). Further subjects were part of the holiday programme, including coding, geography, music, arts and crafts and drama.

One of the photos shows a worksheet. Miki from Stepping Stones explained that the worksheet was about coping skills: "We talked about why people get angry, and how we can calm down... Students were asked to help Mario to calm down."

As written in their update to CHW, Stepping Stones is providing a meaningful learning experience at these programmes, whilst helping the children to thrive academically.

Thank you for being part of projects like these! As you can see, you are making an impact in the lives of children across the globe. Thank you for making sure they can have a brighter tomorrow. We really appreciate all your help throughout 2023!

You are making a big difference for the children

Thank you very much for your care and support for the children and young people at our projects. Your help is making such a positive difference for them!

Below are some updates from the projects that your donations have been supporting:

Assistance for students in Ghana

New Life, in Ghana, runs a centre, school and outreach programme. New Life has asked CHW for assistance for some of the young people who are currently studying. Over the past couple of months, your donations have helped with the cost of school items and basic needs of a teenage boy in Senior High School (the final three years of school in Ghana) and resources for two female students who are both in the first year of their studies. One is studying education to become a teacher and the other is studying fashion design.

As these young people are at a stage in their lives where they are self-conscious about having details about this assistance shared online, we have cropped some photos (so as not to include the students' faces), showing the food supplies received by a student and a laptop being given to a student.

Thank you very much for supporting these young people while they complete their education. This will enable them to have many more opportunities for the future.

Helping with safety and security at a school in Ghana

New Life's school needed to have a wall and security gate installed around its building and land, to ensure safety for the schoolchildren. We are grateful that your support helped to make this possible!

In a message from Derrick, the director of New Life, he wrote, "New Life is now secured with a gate. The children are safe all thanks to CHW... and all [supporters]."

Food for families in Romania

We are very thankful to all who make it possible to continue to support Refugiu's food distribution programme, serving children and their families in a village in Romania. Since the price of food has risen, we are grateful for all additional help to be able to keep this vital programme going.

Robert, the head of Refugiu, has said that the food is a big support for the families.

Educational materials for migrant children in China

As well as providing English classes and coding lessons to the children, a new programme has been launched, called Social Emotional Learning (SEL).

Miki from Stepping Stones gave an example of some outdoor activities arranged for the children in a local park, involving English lessons and SEL. She wrote:

"In the English-themed outdoor activity, [the children] were divided into groups and given a 'Colour Hunt' guide book. Children and volunteers set out on expeditions around the park in search of spring colours.

In the SEL outdoor activity, students learned about basic emotions and how to deal with the strong ones confidently. We talked about embarrassment and had a mindful walk in the park in small groups."

Your help is so wonderful for these children and young people. Thank you for the impact you are having in their lives.
