The situation in Bukavu remains uncertain. Although a deceptive calm prevails in the city, clashes are happening just outside the urban borders, and instability is bringing everything to a standstill. Families are trying to move forward with their small businesses, but the war has wiped out the livelihoods of many, pushing them into extreme poverty. In this scenario, the greatest risk is that children will drop out of school; that is why we are doing everything possible to support them and ensure they are not left alone.
At Foyer Ek’Abana, however, life does not stop. On the contrary, the number of children we welcome is increasing every day. Despite the difficulties, they never miss a lesson and participate with joy in every activity: from the carpentry workshop to dance classes and choir rehearsals. These moments of normalcy truly make a difference.
And then there is Sarah’s story, which reminds us of the profound meaning of our commitment. Sarah has lived with a physical disability for years, and due to the crisis, her family struggles with a level of poverty that made it impossible to provide her with either medical care or an education. Thanks to your support and the inclusion program, Sarah managed to finish primary school and has now enrolled in middle school.
Let us continue to support the center together, so that children like Sarah can grow up healthy and in a protected environment.
