This project seeks to promote the dissemination of a preventive road culture, conducting 50 annual workshops on "Citizen Education and Road Safety" in schools in the regions of Valparaiso, Metropolitan and O'Higgins, impacting a total of 1,800 high school students. This proposal is aligned with our mission, which seeks to preventively address issues such as drunk driving or driving under the influence of drugs and road incidents in general, with the aim of achieving a cultural change in society.

Challenge

In Chile, driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs poses serious problems, in addition to being the second leading cause of traffic accidents in 2023. This problem has a negative impact on road safety, public health and quality of life in general. Despite efforts to raise awareness and implement preventive measures, significant challenges remain in reducing substance-related road crashes. Continued and coordinated action is needed to promote a responsible driving culture in society.

Solution

The culture of road safety extends beyond transportation, encompassing education, justice, victim support and health considerations. Fundacion Emilia, through its Citizen Education Area, provides "Citizen Education and Road Safety" workshops to raise awareness about civic education, the risks of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, reckless driving and the impact of accidents on society. The aim is to sensitize school communities, promoting responsible citizenship.

Long-Term Impact

This project seeks to raise awareness of the issue of Citizen Education and Road Safety among 1,800 students in 50 workshops held at the secondary school level in schools located in the regions of Valparaiso, Metropolitan and O'Higgins. These workshops are expected to be a positive contribution to the development of a new road culture.
