Neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) affect millions in Nigeria, spreading through dirty streets and poor sanitation. To celebrate World Neglected Tropical Diseases Day (January 30th, 2026), your support will fund a community-led street clean-up initiative to reduce disease, improve public health, and create safer, cleaner neighborhoods in Mararaba communities of Karu Local Government in Nasarawa State.
In many Mararaba communities, open drains, littered streets, and stagnant water create breeding grounds for bacteria and disease vectors. NTDs, like cholera, schistosomiasis, and lymphatic filariasis, disproportionately impact children and vulnerable families, causing sickness, school absenteeism, and loss of income.
Our project will mobilize a minimum of 100 local volunteers and community members to clean streets and remove waste, conduct awareness campaigns on hygiene and disease prevention, install trash collection points to sustain cleanliness, and partner with local health authorities to monitor disease reduction
Through this initiative, hundreds of community members will experience safer and cleaner living environments. Learn preventive measures against NTDs. Reduce disease incidence and improve children's school attendance. Build pride and ownership in maintaining a healthy neighborhood.
