OVERVIEW
The Clean Water for 100 Communities in Ghana is an initiative of the Young Visionary Leaders which is fundraising to support and provide communities with clean drinking water in some deprived areas in Ghana. This project seeks to construct and donate mechanized borehole to marginalized communities in the Northern, Eastern and Western part of Ghana, providing clean drinking water for nine hundred thousand (900000) children, women and people with disabilities who do not have access to clean drinking water.
Despite the numerous challenges, including lack of proper health care facilities and economic hardship confronting children, young people, and women, in communities we work in and its surroundings, access to clean and affordable water remain their foremost desire for infrastructural aid, as this contributes as a root cause to several of their other major issues such as poverty, gender, education and health related issues.
INTERVENTION
Due to the situation at hand, the Young Visionary Leaders Ghana through the support of our individual donors we are able to support with the construction of mechanized boreholes for the marginalized communities. The year 2023 saw the construction of one of our biggest mechanized borehole projects donated to the people of Pakro in the Eastern Region of Ghana. The project was completed and commissioned on the 22nd of March 2023 which marked the World Water Day.
BENEFICIARY
Over five thousand (5000) beneficiaries including children, young people, women, aged and people with disabilities are benefitting from this project.
CAMPAIGN ACTIVITIES
As we strive to ensure that 900000 of our target beneficiaries have access to clean water, we continue with our fundraising campaign for the clean water for 100 communities in Ghana using our social media platforms.
We continue to discover communities and schools that are in dire need of clean water as a matter of urgency. We hope to have some of these communities and schools provided with clean drinking water once we have funds to support these projects. This objective is in line with our mission to ensure that one hundred (100) communities are provided with clean water.
IMPACT STORIES
The project has really contributed towards the sustainable development of the communities and making a lot of impact in the lives of beneficiaries most especially children and women in their daily lives as compared to the previous years where they did not have clean water in their communities. This project, according to Mr. Abdul Lateef, assembly member for the area, has impacted positively on the socioeconomic activities of the area.
Janet Danku, a girl child from the community shared an impact story of the water project in her daily life as a child who always have to fetch water for the households before and after school. According to her, the availability and access to clean water has been a blessing because she can now report to school on time and is very energetic for the lessons during class hours which has improved her academic performance since last two academic terms.
CHALLENGES
The Clean Water for 100 Communities in Ghana seeks to raise $1M to be able to provide these communities and schools with clean drinking water. However, we have been able to raise a Total of $74.39 from two donors as at date. Despite our efforts to ensure smooth running of the fundraising campaign.
ACTIONABLE MEASURES
The Young Visionary Leaders Ghana’s team is putting together measures in place to ensure the smooth fundraising campaign for the Clean Water for 100 Communities in Ghana Project which is been championed by our social media team weekly. The measure is to ensure the increment of donations on our platform by increasing number of donors.
CONCLUSION
We acknowledge the tremendous support of our individual donors through this journey. This achievement would not have been possible without your supports, we really appreciate your kind gestures.
