The first team of ASMP volunteers has arrived safely on the ground as we are excited for the dry working season in Old Fangak to begin. All of the well-drilling supplies have also arrived in Old Fangak after a long boat journey on the Nile.
The team is excited about our prospects this season as we have received our supplies earlier than usual. Volunteers like Denny have begun assessing the water situation in Old Fangak, and an assessment of each water well has been completed. Pumps and generators are being serviced in preparation for our first well-drilling lead volunteer, Rob, who will arrive in early January. He will work with local trainees and our South Sudanese Project Manager Stephen to install our first well of the season: at the new school under construction in Old Fangak.
The team on the ground now will begin preparations including identifying the sight and working with the village Water Management Committee to plan the best use of the well. If all goes according to plan, the borehole should be completed by the end of January, and we hope to have a functioning, abundant new source of clean water for the school in place by the middle of February.
