Clean Water for Families in Yemen

Yemen remains one of the worst humanitarian crises across the globe. After eight years of war, infrastructure has been ruined and access to basic necessities is nearly impossible. The groups at war have continued to target civilians, causing staggering numbers of casualties. Well over half of the population is facing food insecurity at the crisis level. The pandemic has only furthered this issue, with supply chain disruptions and decreased funding to respond. Over 20 million individuals are in dire need of humanitarian assistance. 

GlobalMedic is responding. Lifesaving aid is in high demand in Yemen, which is why GlobalMedic has sent both Family Emergency Kits and Emergency Food Kits to affected families. These forms of aid provide displaced Yemenis with lifesaving items. 

Family Emergency Kits are a portable, easy-to-use water purification system. No matter the water purification system included, it provides families with clean drinking water in their own homes. Access to clean drinking water is disrupted during conflict as infrastructure is damaged and pollutants find their way into water sources increasing the risk of waterborne illness. Family Emergency Kits provide a simple solution to families, and one that can easily travel with them if they have to relocate. GlobalMedic includes basic hygiene items in these kits as well. These items promote good hygiene practices, decreasing the risk of communicable disease such as COVID-19. 

Emergency Food Kits are made with the end consumer in mind, comprised of culturally appropriate pantry staples. Items such as lentils, chickpeas and rice are included in the kits distributed in Yemen. The number of individuals facing severe food insecurity in Yemen continues to grow, increasing the need for food aid. Pantry staples are nutrient dense and filling, making them a critical part of meals.
