Project Report | Jan 2, 2024
January 2024 Project Update

By Jamie Cross | Senior Emergency Programs Manager

There are 21.6 million people in need of humanitarian assistance in Yemen today. The chronic underfunding of this crisis has meant that for years, humanitarian agencies have not been able to reach everyone who has needed support. GlobalMedic is still working towards funding addtional shipments of aid including Family Emergency Kits and Emergency Food Kits.

Family Emergency Kits are a portable, easy-to-use water purification system. No matter the water purification system included, it provides families with clean drinking water in their own homes. Access to clean drinking water is disrupted during conflict as infrastructure is damaged and pollutants find their way into water sources increasing the risk of waterborne illness. Family Emergency Kits provide a simple solution to families, and one that can easily travel with them if they have to relocate. GlobalMedic includes basic hygiene items in these kits as well. These items promote good hygiene practices, decreasing the risk of communicable disease such as COVID-19.

Emergency Food Kits are made with the end consumer in mind, comprised of culturally appropriate pantry staples. Items such as lentils, chickpeas and rice are included in the kits distributed in Yemen. The number of individuals facing severe food insecurity in Yemen continues to grow, increasing the need for food aid. Pantry staples are nutrient dense and filling, making them a critical part of meals.

While the need is still high, GlobalMedic will continue responding. All donations towards this project go towards providing Family Emergency Kits and Emergency Food Kits to families in Yemen.
