EFA builds and runs boarding houses for girls in the remote High Atlas area of Morocco so they can access school. We would love to support the investment of computers in our newest boarding house. Digital skills are essential for the girls' future opportunities in education and employment, yet they do not have access to them in their homes due to poverty. Accessing them at EFA means they can research, form online study groups and build digital confidence so they can succeed in their education.
Girls in rural areas live in an educational and digital divide due to poverty and their remote location. Education For All Morocco is addressing this by building safe and well equipped boarding houses so girls can access school in a supportive learning environment where they can skill-up and reach their potential.
This project will support an investment of 15 computers in our biggest, newest house in Talat N Yacoub, deep into the High Atlas, 125 km from Marrakech. This house takes up to 50 girls with full board accommodation so they can leave their villages during the week and go to school each day. They do not have access to computers or internet back in their villages, so exposure to them during their week with us is essential, giving them confidence to realise their dreams and share their knowledge.
We see these young women as the future leaders of Morocco! The computer room is an essential part of their learning environment, helping them develop their digital skills and improve their future prospects. Digital confidence is essential for women to gain equality in Morocco's workplace, and these girls are role models in their villages where their mothers and grandmothers have been locked into poverty and illiteracy due to lack of opportunity. Their education will change the next generation.
