Dear Project Supporters,
According to Unicef, "An estimated 1 in 6 children – or 356 million globally – lived in extreme poverty before the pandemic, and this is set to worsen significantly."
The World Bank-Global estimate of children in poverty in 2017 stated that sub-Saharan Africa accounted for two-thirds of extremely poor children. These estimates are based on the Global Monitoring Database (GMD) of household surveys compiled in Spring 2020 and consists of surveys from 149 countries that are also used for the official World Bank poverty estimates. Because the estimates pertain to 2017, they do not consider the adverse economic impact of the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic"
While these statistics are sobering, we are so thankful for your continued support that is helping provide masks, soap, radios, hand washing stations, and food for families in need. You are making a difference and helping meet this ongoing need.
As COVID-19 continues to be a challenge for all, especially those already struggling with poverty, we greatly appreciate your continued support in saving lives and stopping the spread of COVID-19/coronavirus in Sierra Leone. Please share this project with your contacts and invite them to consider supporting this ongoing project.
If you have any questions, please feel free to email us at GlobalGiving@developafrica.org.
Stay healthy and safe,
Amy and the Develop Africa Team
