Dear sponsor,
As you are aware, COVID-19 continues to affect the lives of children, young people and families across the world. This is also true for SOS Children´s Village in Morocco. We are still following the official guidance to protect the children, young people, and families who we support. Over the last few months, the children and young people have also continued to adapt to the changes in their lives.
During the lockdown period, which Amine remembers as particularly boring and uncertain. His institution had to close its doors due to the covid situation. Thus, he was unable to attend his practical classes. To overcome this difficult period, Amine joined his brothers at heart. The young boy has become very autonomous and manages his finances by himself; “I only buy the essential goods” he told me. Amine confided in me that the most positive thing about this period was that he was able to spend a wonderful time with his brothers at heart. Indeed, he’ll never forget the naps and reunions during meals and snacks altogether. It is a real pleasure to see him grow up alongside his SOS family.
It must be said that the lockdown did not discourage the young boys at the boys’ apartment of Salé from enjoying their summer holidays. In this context, Karim was unfortunately unable to visit his Village. However, He had fun and experienced magical moments in the company of his brothers at heart, all in a warm family atmosphere. Karim’s days were full of activities: going to the beach, cultural competitions, sports sessions… but also participation in the cleaning of the place of stay, without forgetting the naps and the reunions during meals and snacks altogether; “I often helped my brothers at heart in the preparation of meals, it was a lot of fun!” he told me. At home, Karim loves to draw with his two SOS brothers, Youssef and Zouhair; “we regularly organize sessions at the living room to draw anime such as: One Piece or Boruto” he told me with a big smile. Indeed, the young boy an anime lover, it allows him to learn great life lessons. These childhood memories are precious to Karim and will remain forever engraved in his memory, as will your unfailing support and generosity.
Because of the sanitary crisis, a new way of studying has been put in place. During the lockdown all teaching was done from home. SOS Children Villages Morocco have been able to very quickly act according to the new measures to enable the children to live safely while receiving all the necessary equipment and support to be able to study from home. Thanks to our generous partners we have collected laptops, TVs, phones and tablets allowing the children to receive their lessons, attend online classes and submit their homework. « I love working on the tablet, but I often forget to charge it! » says Boutayna. Still today, the children are not back to school fulltime, school attendance is only for 50% of the time. They are still using all the equipment to continue studying from home the other 50%. The youths’ orientation workshops have also been transferred online « the youths are still very interested, all the sessions are full » says the Social Assistant. Boutayna has been very good at adapting to this new normal.
Meryem: An energetic personality
During the national lockdown, Meryem kept herself busy, she did drawing, paintings, mandalas, theatre and music « My favourite activity is drawing » she says. She also played many football games in the Village, which is a sport she particularly enjoys. In boarding school she also takes part to football games, she is in attacking position where she likes scoring goals. Unfortunately during her latest game she scored against her team, which disappointed her, and she still talks about it embarrassed. She supports the local Wydad of Casablanca team, as well as the FC Barcelona. Her favourite player plays for the Paris St Germain and is Neymar. She also practices Volleyball, Basketball, Handball and runs in School, which she really enjoys.
