Report for the support of children and youth

By LISA TANZILLI | SUPPORT FOR 116 YOUTHS DURING THE COVID CRISIS

1. A clear vision and mission
Every child belongs to a family and grows up with love, respect and security.
SOS Children's Villages takes care of children at risk, especially those who have lost parental support and those who live in very vulnerable families and who therefore risk being abandoned or abused. The protection and promotion of the rights of the child are both the starting point and the goal of our action.
2. SOS Children's Villages in Morocco
SOS Children's Villages has been active in Morocco since 1985. It is placed under the Honorary Presidency of Princess Royal Lalla Hasnaa and is recognized as being of public utility.
In 2020, the organization provides assistance to 736 children being cared for in 5 programs across the Kingdom.
Nearly 500 young adults from SOS Children's Villages are now self-sufficient and independent.
3. Reminder of the context of the covid-19 crisis
Following the directives of the Kingdom of Morocco aimed at protecting the health and safety of all beneficiaries and employees of SOS Children's Villages Morocco; the association has actively implemented an emergency plan in order to continue the care of all children in the villages by keeping the key care staff confined with a system of permanence in order to ensure health. of children, on the continuity of their distance education, their nutrition and their protection.
In order to guarantee the safety and hygiene of all by preventing the risk of infection as much as possible and by minimizing the risk of spread; the following measures were put in place immediately and until further notice.
Sanitary and food measures:
• Raise awareness and inform key staff in the care of the hygiene measures to be taken and applied continuously;
• Raise awareness and empower children and young people on the hygiene measures to be observed and adopt "barrier gestures" to protect themselves and others;
• Prohibit travel outside the Villages for children, young people and key staff in care;
• Supply the stocks of non-perishable foodstuffs and hygienic products for a period of 2 months. These stocks should only be used in cases of extreme necessity.

Educational measures:
• Follow the guidelines of the Ministry of Education to set up school activities for children and young people;

Faced with the gravity of the situation and the uncertainty to come as to the duration of this health crisis, each manager was ordered to rationalize the expenses to be incurred. Only expenses directly linked to the care of children and young people are authorized.

4. Financial impact on the association
Many of our young people have found themselves unemployed following the closure of cafes, restaurants and shops, and 130 children living in boarding schools have returned to SOS Children's Villages. The association therefore had to ensure their safety, as well as offer them accommodation, food, health and put in place all the means so that they continue their education at a distance, in addition to the 560 children already present in the villages and 176 children. that we help through our programs to support families in danger. Without forgetting, the employees and supervisors mobilized in the 5 villages of the Kingdom.
Youth monitoring apartments
The return of all these young people full-time necessitated some rearrangement of living spaces, the change of certain gas stove, refrigerators, water heaters, etc., and the addition of other equipment, particularly kitchen equipment.
Autonomous youth
For several years, these young people have been working in the informal sector and they have asked for help from the association for food support because they have lost their income-generating activity.

5. Use of the budget
Thanks to the support provided by GlobalGiving, the donation made it possible to cover the food, hygiene and rent expenses of 37 unemployed young people as well as the food and hygiene of 79 young people who returned from boarding schools.
