Summary

Since the launch of the COVID19 Vaccination Campaign by the Government of Zimbabwe in 2021, only 48% of the rural population have been vaccinated. This low vaccination drive in rural areas has been caused by lack of health facilities in remote locations to facilitate vaccination, and lack of vaccine education causing people to be worried about the unknown effects of the vaccine. The country continues to see onward infection due to lack of access to vaccine information and the vaccine itself.

Challenge

COVID19 cases continue to be detected across Zimbabwe and some of the poorest districts such as Mutoko rural district have as many as 52% of their population who live in hard to reach areas unvaccinated. This low vaccine coverage is attributed to shortage of health facilities in remote locations to facilitate vaccine distribution, vaccine hesitancy and shortage of health care workers who can vaccinate. Increasing access to COVID19 vaccines is now urgent to protect people in hard to reach areas.

Solution

With your donation we will set up a mobile clinic which will facilitate the delivery of vaccines to communities in hard to reach areas, and vaccinate people where they are. We will also distribute Information Educational and Communication (IEC) material on COVID19 vaccines to build public awareness and overcome apathy and vaccine hesitancy.

Long-Term Impact

The project will expand COVID19 vaccination coverage to hard-to-reach areas in Zimbabwe, this will complement the government's efforts to advance universal access to the vaccine, achieve herd immunity and ultimately bring the pandemic under control.
