CHAT provides affordable housing for people who are unhoused and the supportive services to enable residents to maintain long term housing stability. We move in individuals/ families from the streets and local shelters to permanent and transitional housing opportunities. All residents are provided furnishings, household items, food, volunteer support, and social services. We house; veterans, families, individuals with physical and/ or mental disabilities, disaster survivors, and students.
There are currently hundreds, possibly thousands, of people in Chico, CA who are homeless or precariously housed due to low or no incomes and a chronic lack of affordable housing. Our shelters are full and there needs to be a place to go after shelter. The need for affordable housing continues to grow with the effects of recent wildfires in northern California.
CHAT provides transitional and permanent housing solutions with the support needed to stabilize individuals and families. Support includes food, furniture, volunteers, and social services. We lease individual bedrooms with shared common areas at fair market rent in community-based homes to individuals who would otherwise be outside or in a shelter. We lease houses to families who are precariously housed or unhoused. By removing barriers and providing Housing First access we provide solutions.
Individuals living outside and utilizing emergency services can cost taxpayers up to $40,000 per year. Housing individuals in CHAT supported housing costs an average of 12, 000 per year. We believe housing is a human right and all individuals and families benefit from having basic needs met. It is healthier for the environment when people live inside and have access to plumbing. With continued climate refugees only increasing it is imperative for society to invest in creative housing solution
