The project will empower 200 unemployed youth and women, providing employment and reducing ecological damage in Abia, Imo, Sokoto and FCT.The primary aim of the project is to improve the economic condition of the rural youth through beekeeping as a natural based- resource for climate action and rural resilience. During the training period, beneficiaries will learn the basic tools of beekeeping such as Bee Hive Components, Honey Production, Packaging/Honey processing, Marketing, Money Management.
Presently, the increasing scarcity of natural resources and unsustainable land management practices are some factors driving environmental conflicts leading to migration and unemployment among many rural dwellers including youth. Most of the government programs are ad-hoc, thus not recognizing the endemic issues facing many rural youths. This project will train and equip 200 youth in the selected states, reduce insecurity, produce jobs and restore soil through increased tree planting.
RUWAI provides alternative livelihood skills through learning the various Bee Hive Components, Honey Production, Packaging/Honey processing, Marketing,Money Management. At the end of the training, beneficiaries will be supported with bee making equipment, the strategy of marketing and guidance to start and run own profitable beekeeping business. Beneficiaries are expected to pay a given percentage through cooperative which enables other youth to benefit in the next phase and reduced unemployment.
The project will help 200 beneficiaries to start their own beekeeping businesses and generate income for them, as well as enhance communities climate resilience. Additional 200people will have employment by working with them, and many indirect jobs created in the community. This youth will no longer be counted among the 21.7 million unemployed Nigerians, and will reduce poverty, crime among youth and increase food production, while reducing pressures on land based natural resources.
