Thank You for Putting Rural Tanzania on the Map

By The Crowd2Map Team | Project Leader

Dear friends and supporters of Crowd2Map Tanzania

We are so grateful for your generous donations and continuing support Every contribution you have made has been vital in keeping our work alive—and achieving real and meaningful impact in rural Tanzania.

What You’ve Helped Us Achieve

Since 2015, Crowd2Map has used crowdsourced mapping to put rural Tanzania on the map. Through your support, we have:

  • Trained thousands of remote volunteers around the world together with many field mappers in Tanzania who contribute local knowledge.
  • Added millions of buildings, villages, roads, schools, clinics, and other vital points of interest into OpenStreetMap—something that would not have been possible without mapping from both satellite imagery and on-the-ground efforts.
  • Supported activists and local partners working to end Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) by enabling more accurate maps. In many cases, villages at risk had been unmarked or hard to locate, making it difficult for rescuers or outreach workers to act in time. Better mapping has helped change that.

How Your Support Makes a Difference

Your donations have helped us:

  • Equip more local “Digital Champions” and community mappers with tools, training, and support to participate locally.
  • Run mapping parties, workshops, and remote mapping tasks that collectively add significant coverage.
  • Provide resources for field validation and support, so maps are reliable.
  • Maintain and develop partnerships that help extend the reach of our work—both in Tanzania and globally.

A Heartfelt Thank You

None of this would be possible without you—our donors. Your generosity makes possible every map traced, every trail named, every remote community accounted for. Even small contributions add up: each dollar helps get us closer to a future where no village is off-the-map and every girl at risk of FGM has a chance to be protected.

We promise to continue being transparent, responsible, and ambitious with your support. If you ever want more updates, see maps in progress, or hear stories from local mappers and those impacted, we’d be delighted to share.

Thank you for standing with Crowd2Map Tanzania. Because of you, rural Tanzania is becoming safer, more visible, and more empowered.

With deep gratitude,
