Customized Wheelchairs for the 1st time in Egypt!

A New Milestone

Dear all Alhassan Foundation’s friends, believers & supporters,

We’d like to share with you a new milestone in our Journey. Thanks to your generous donations, we have delivered 43 wheelchairs to our beneficiaries in the past 3 months which brings us to a grand total of 1000 manual customized wheelchairs and electric wheelchairs delivered to our beneficiaries, kids and adults. You have contributed in changing the lives of 1000 wheelchair users in Egypt. Wheelchairs are as crucial as person’s legs. They’re the only way people with mobility issues can go about their day.

These customized wheelchairs are tailor-made for each case based on his/her weight, height, health condition and needs. It’s made with medically approved materials, and components. It’s also provided with cushions to resist pressure sores & any possible skin irritations. Riding this efficient light-weighted wheelchair made wheelers’ daily lives so much easier; consequently, that improved their self-esteem and physical independence.

Heba is a prime example of how much a customized wheelchair can change a person’s life. Heba was a very shy lady from Upper Egypt. When we first saw her she had just finished her senior year of high school and was going to study Mass Communicationin the University of Beni Suef.

During the measurement session it was evident how depressed and anxious she was. After she received her tailor-made wheelchair her life changed 180 degrees; it boosted her confidence and self-esteem. She went from being a shy and quiet lady to being the president of the students’ union. Now, she advocates for other Differently Abled students. Also, she frequently meets with the university president and demands for ramps and other accessibility options to be available throughout her University. That’s the kind of change a tailor-made wheelchair can make.

Independence with Challenges

Dear Alhassan’s Donors,

We do highly thank you for your last donation. Your support made a change for people who use customized wheelchairs in Egypt. Customized Wheelchairs in Egypt are becoming one of the main pillars in our projects to serve people with mobility issues. Providing a customized wheelchair for a person is providing him or her with a vital tool to have a balanced life that helps them to become independent physically and socially.

Rasha’s life has been changed due to your generous donation. Her story starts with a challenge and ends with full independence. Her new customized wheelchair gives her the full power of movement. Before using the tailored wheelchair, she was dependent and not sociable. Her life was crippled by her mobility issue forcing her to stay at home!

With her new customized wheelchair, she has been introduced to a new phase of life. She started working and engaging in new challenges. She starts going from home to work and vice versa using her new customized wheelchair without needing any transportation. The distance takes her 2 kilo meters. She is challenging herself and the society which does not accept differences. Although, every day she faces many challenges from people and the environment surroundings from unpaved pavements and inaccessible transportation till lack of awareness, but still Rasha has a deep hope for changing the mindset of her society. By going out and being independent, messages to society have been delivered that people with mobility challenges are normal ones, but they need accessibility to live a normal life as their abled peers.

Mahmoud and his Butterfly!

We do highly thank you for your last donation. You have supported in the change of people’s life. Your support made a change for people who use customized wheelchairs in Egypt. Customized Wheelchairs in Egypt are becoming one of the main pillars in our projects to serve people with mobility issues. Providing a customized wheelchair for a person is providing him with a vital tool to have a balanced life that helps him/her to become independent physically and socially.

Through your donation, you shared in changing a child’s life; this child literally moved from darkness to a bright side of life. Mahmoud’s story has started with one of our volunteers whom helped him to join our community. He lives in a slum in Cairo, it is one of the biggest poor neighborhood in Egypt. Mahmoud suffers from Muscle Atrophy, which means that he has severe weakness in all muscles of his body. This leads him to become a permanent wheelchair user. His family cannot afford buying him a wheelchair. Thus, his mum used to carry him wherever he wanted to go, and they live in a third floor without an elevator. For that reason, he was sitting all his time at home without any social life. Mahmoud’s mum said, “all my dream is that Mahmoud goes to school and be educated as other normal children”.

When we knew Mahmoud’s story, we were eager to be a part of changing his life. Because of your donation, we were able to provide him a wheelchair. Now, Mahmoud is going to school and he is in grade 3. He is becoming very sociable with his friends, he is moving freely. With his wheelchair, he said “I am a butterfly”. His friends started to accept the meaning of “physical differences”. His mum’s back is being saved from carrying him three floors every day to reach their apartment. Now Mahmoud is socially active; he is participating in our events.

Lately we won an honorary award of Zero Project Conference 2019 to acknowledge that we are sustainable in our mission and vision and we are always seeking for the betterment of life for physically challenged people through changing their disability into ability. This Award ceremony was held in the UN premises in Vienna which focused on Independent Living and Political

Participation.
