Customized Wheelchairs for the 1st time in Egypt!

Dear Alhassan Foundation’s friends, believers & supporters,

Thank you for a great year! With the generosity of your donation, we were able to take huge steps in empowering many wheelchair users in Egypt and support their physical independence which leads to their financial independence.

With your donations, we were able to provide 111 wheelchairs for women and 196 wheelchairs for men with physical challenges. These wheelers are residing across the 27 governorates of Egypt. 114 of these wheelchairs were for supporting wheelers in underprivileged coastal governorates and 10 more wheelchairs were to support wheelers in Canal cities. Also, our beneficiaries in the most underserved governorates in upper Egypt acquired the biggest share of your donations this year with 111 customized wheelchairs and surely Cairo wheelchair users residents received 72 wheelchairs. So 2019 was a great year for all of us and we are hoping that 2020 will be even greater.

These customized wheelchairs are tailor-made for each case based on his/her weight, height, health condition and needs. It’s made with medically approved materials, and components. It’s also provided with cushions to resist pressure sores & any possible skin irritations. Using customized wheelchairs made wheelers’ daily lives so much easier; consequently, that boosted their self-esteem and physical independence.

Thanks to your donations we were able to deliver 48 customized wheelchairs in the past three months. These customized wheelchairs are tailor-made for each case based on his/her weight, height, health condition and needs. It’s made with medically approved materials, and components. It’s also provided with cushions to resist pressure sores & any possible skin irritations. Riding this efficient light-weighted wheelchair made wheelers’ daily lives so much easier; consequently, that boosted their self-esteem and physical independence.

When we started providing customized wheelchairs in Egypt, we faced the challenge of finding suitable wheelchairs for kids; as their bodies grow rapidly. Periodically changing their wheelchair to fit them as they grow wasn’t a reasonable solution. So, adjustable wheelchairs were the answer; they basically grow with the kids by simply adjusting some of the chair’s components.

The impact these wheelchairs have on kids and their families is outstanding. Kids who were forced to be home-schooled for years were finally able to join schools and get proper education. They, also, were able to do activities they were never able to, like playing sports or music or having a normal social life… etc.

We’d like to share Karim and Lamiaa’s story to show the impact these wheelchairs had on them. Karim is a 12-year-old boy who has scoliosis and multiple defects in bones and joints. After Karim got his customized wheelchair, it motivated him to start playing table tennis. Now Karim plays in the national team of Egypt for juniors and competed in Africa’s championship and placed third, also worth mentioning that he was the youngest contestant there.

Our second story is Lamiaa’s, she’s an 11-years-old amputee girl who has a brain tumor. She overcame all those who doubted her abilities. She started playing table tennis after she received her customized wheelchair. These wheelchairs have such a mind-blowing effect on these kids’ lives; they provide the proper tool to let these kids’ potentials and talents shine!
