Cyclone and Floods Relief Project: Impact and Progress (March 2024 - June 2024)

By Joseph Anthony Chukka | Project Leader

Dear Esteemed Donors,

Namaste and warm greetings from BASS, India.

We are pleased to provide an update on our Cyclone and Floods Relief Project in Andhra Pradesh, covering the period from March 2024 to June 2024. During this time, there have been no emergencies, cyclones, or floods, and unfortunately, no single donation has been received for this project.

In early December 2023, Cyclone Michoung struck with devastating force, severely impacting the coastal regions of Guntur and Bapatla districts. Homes, agriculture, infrastructure, and livelihoods were all significantly affected. Many families found themselves destitute, facing food scarcity, water pollution, and health hazards due to the cyclone’s aftermath.

In response to this crisis, we launched an urgent appeal through a micro-project on GlobalGiving. With an additional $70 raised, combined with support from GlobalGiving and other generous contributors, we were able to provide critical relief to 200 families affected by Cyclone Michoung. Our efforts included distributing essential supplies—such as ration kits containing staple foods and hygiene products—and conducting educational sessions on emergency preparedness and cyclone awareness.

Furthermore, we assisted in rebuilding efforts by providing tarpaulin sheets to 70 families whose homes were damaged. The success of this project was evident through the positive feedback from beneficiaries who expressed heartfelt gratitude for the timely and substantial support. Additionally, we extended aid to another 200 families, providing emergency food supplies and roofing materials.

Our commitment continues in cyclone-prone areas of Guntur district. 1
