Dear Esteemed Donors,
Namaste and warm greetings from BASS, India.
We would like to express our deepest gratitude for your generous support to our Cyclone and Floods Relief Project. Your trust and compassion have been invaluable to our mission, and we are profoundly grateful for your commitment to our cause.
We are pleased to share an update on the relief activities carried out in Andhra Pradesh during the period from July to October 2024, which saw devastating floods and cyclonic storms impacting several regions, particularly Guntur, Vijayawada, and Warangal. In the last week of August and continuing into early September, heavy rains caused widespread flooding, breached canals, and overwhelmed water systems, with significant damage reported across the state.
The Situation in Vijayawada and Guntur: The Budameru Canal in Vijayawada, which burst its banks between September 1st and 14th, caused severe flooding in low-lying areas, submerging homes, displacing families, and damaging infrastructure. Many families lost their homes, vehicles, and essential belongings, with floodwaters reaching the ground and in some cases, first-floor levels. The devastation extended to Guntur, Bapatla, and surrounding areas, where crops were also severely affected by the unexpected rainfall that continued through October.
Our Response and Relief Efforts: In response to this crisis, BASS mobilized its emergency relief teams to provide immediate assistance to the affected families. To date, we have distributed food, drinking water, dry ration kits, blankets, cooking utensils, and sanitary supplies to over 500 families, including 400 families in Vijayawada and 100 families in Guntur district. Additionally, we provided 150 shelter kits to the most displaced families in these areas.
Despite the challenges posed by the ongoing disaster, we are committed to reaching as many families as possible with the resources we have. We are currently planning further relief efforts and rebuilding activities to support families in Guntur and Krishna districts.
Support from Generous Donors: Thanks to your kind contributions, we were able to raise $1,720 through this project with a micro-project on GlobalGiving, which has been instrumental in implementing our relief efforts. The families in Vijayawada and Guntur send their heartfelt thanks for the support they have received, and your contribution has made a significant difference in their lives.
Looking Ahead: As we continue our efforts to support flood-affected communities, we would like to invite you to consider contributing to our project Your donation will ensure to help more affected families in the region.
Together, We Can Make a Difference: Your unwavering support helps us bring hope and relief to those facing unimaginable hardships. On behalf of the entire team at BASS and the communities we serve, we thank you once again for your kindness and generosity. Please support the project to continue our efforts to the needy families!
With heartfelt gratitude,
