Hello! I am Sergio, Coordinator of the Project Defend LGBTI+ Rights for 5000+ People in Paraguay. This is a brief summary of donations received to support the implementation of this project up to date as well as a few pictures.
Even though our project is focused on LGBTI+ people, our constituents decided to show support to a local indigenous community relocated in Villeta, Central Department of Paraguay where SOMOSGAY also has a community center.
The collaboration between SOMOSGAY, the TEKOHARÃ Community Center and the Takuapu Miri community began with an initial exchange of community-produced medicinal remedies and the use of SOMOSGAY's community space for communal lunches and access to hygiene and collective health services.
Thanks to the $400 USD in support we received, we were able to cover medical assistance trips for a Mbyá teenager from the Takuapú Miri community. This trip covered the entire 120 km journey, with four round trips between the city of Villeta and Asunción, which is 30 km away.
We also covered the cost of food for these trips and provided support for additional locally produced supplies such as machetes, shovels, and household utensils for the community's communal kitchen feeding over 32 families composed of approximately 6-8 people each.
