Learning to Defend Our Rights

By Rosario Felix | Project Leader

In Peru, more than 441,000 people work in domestic service, and nearly 95% of them are women. Although there is a law that recognizes their labor rights, most continue to work without a contract or access to basic benefits. Many are unaware that the law protects them, or fear speaking up for their rights because they might lose their jobs.

At AGTR, we believe that knowledge is the first step toward justice. Through our workshops, domestic workers learn about their rights, strengthen their self-esteem, and discover that they deserve respect and dignified working conditions. In every session, one woman gains the confidence to talk with her employer, another decides to formalize her contract, and many find a support network they never had before.

Training transforms lives: it allows each domestic worker to recognize herself as a professional and as a rights holder. When they learn, they empower themselves; and when they are empowered, they change not only their own story but also that of thousands of women who sustain households across the country through their work.

Thanks to the support of caring people like you, we continue to strengthen more domestic workers so they can live with dignity, justice, and hope.
