Summary

Medic Outpost is partnering with local and state health departments to train and equip first responder groups in remote regions of Southern Mexico. Medic Outpost will provide emergency medical kits to responders who complete our customized basic first responder training conducted in Spanish. Training and equipment will also be provided to "Casa de Salud" or rural clinic staff in the remote areas to improve rural emergency care and integrate with the existing state healthcare system.

Challenge

Remote villages and communities in rural Mexico are underserved by medical care or not served at all. They are often hours away from paved roads and longer to professional medical care. Being able to provide lifesaving interventions and treatment during the initial stages of an emergency will save countless lives. Trained first responder teams that are in coordination with small rural clinics can stabilize patients for the long transport to a hospital and increase patient survival.

Solution

The creation of first responder teams will provide much needed emergency response in communities that are far from advanced medical care. First responders will have training and equipment to treat minor emergencies and provide lifesaving stabilization to serious emergencies. Common emergencies in the area will be covered such as scorpion stings and airway issues for children that claim many lives each year. First responder teams will interact with existing community clinics to provide care.

Long-Term Impact

The project will train and educate approximately 40 first responders on each training session. First Responder groups will interact with any existing municipal health clinic and provide a continuity of care that will prepare the patient for hospital transport. First responders groups have over sight by the clinics and have continuing education requirements. The impact will be increased emergency care and continued focus on preventative care and education for the community by these teams.
