New Beginnings: Academic Success and a New Slum School in Guntur

By Joseph Anthony A Chukka | Project Leader

Dear Friends, Partners, and Supporters,

Greetings and heartfelt wishes to you all!

We are very happy to share our latest project progress report covering the period from March 2026 to June 2026. Thanks to your steady belief in our mission, we have some wonderful milestones and new beginnings to share.

Celebrating Academic Success

Our main school, serving 120 children, successfully completed the 2025–2026 academic year this past April with the conclusion of annual examinations. We are incredibly proud to share that every single student at the Rainbow Upper Primary School passed their exams!

Among them, 12 bright students have successfully graduated from the 7th grade and are now moving onward to high school. Furthermore, our proud alumni—the students who previously passed out of our 7th grade—have now cleared their 10th-grade board exams and have successfully secured admissions into +2 Intermediate colleges to pursue higher education. Seeing our children break the cycle of poverty through education fills our hearts with immense joy.

Summer Breaks and New Academic Year

Following the exams, the children enjoyed a 40-day summer vacation. While the primary schools were closed for the break, our after-school learning centers continued to operate through most of the hot summer months, closing for just a brief two-week holiday to ensure the children did not fall behind. The brand-new academic year officially commenced on June 12, 2026, and our classrooms are once again alive with energy and hope.

Launching the Lingayapalem Slum Branch

As we previously shared, our dream for this project cycle was to expand our reach to where it is needed most. We are thrilled to announce that we have officially launched a new branch of the BASS Primary School centre directly inside the Lingayapalem slum.

This slum was formed over 20 years ago, yet it remains deeply isolated. The families here live in extreme poverty, working as daily wage laborers in Guntur and the local chili market yard. The community lacks basic infrastructure, including proper brick houses (pukka houses) and clean drinking water, and there are absolutely no other educational facilities nearby. While we have operated a successful after-school learning center here for 60 children since 2014, a daytime school was desperately needed.

Our Current Challenge & Urgent Need for Support

The demand in the Lingayapalem slum is high, and many more families wish to enroll their children. However, due to severe budget constraints, we have had to start small. We have rented a classroom space and enrolled an initial batch of 20 students, supported by two dedicated teachers and one caretaker-cum-cook who prepares fresh, nutritious midday meals for the little ones.

To keep this vital new branch running and to expand it to more children, we urgently need your help. Over the past three months (March to June 2026), we received only $160 in total donations.

How you can help: It costs approximately $300 per month to operate this small slum school, cover the classroom rent, pay the salaries of our two teachers, provide educational materials, and supply daily nutritious midday meals.

We kindly ask you to consider making a donation or sharing our cause with your network. Every dollar goes directly toward ensuring that these vulnerable children can receive a quality education right where they live, saving them from a life of hard labor.

Thank you for being the foundation of their bright futures. We are deeply grateful for your continued love, prayers, and solidarity.

With deep gratitude,
