Outdated Nursing Textbooks Limit Student Learning

By Ugbede-Ojo Dominic Kadiri | Project Leader

Dear Donors,

Thank you for supporting the Donate 8,500 Books to Schools of Nursing and Midwifery project. We sincerely appreciate your generosity and belief in the importance of quality healthcare education.

Future nurses and midwives depend on access to current textbooks and reference materials to build the knowledge needed for safe patient care. Unfortunately, many nursing and midwifery schools continue to rely on outdated, damaged, or insufficient learning materials. In some institutions, students share a small number of textbooks, making independent study difficult and limiting preparation for examinations and clinical practice.

We are grateful for the donations received so far. However, the funds currently available are not sufficient to begin implementation of the project. Additional support is needed before textbooks can be procured, transported, catalogued, and distributed to participating schools.

This project aims to provide 8,500 textbooks and reference guides covering key areas such as anatomy, physiology, obstetrics, pharmacology, community health, medical-surgical nursing, and other essential subjects. The books will be distributed to selected schools, libraries, classrooms, and students who currently lack access to adequate learning resources.

Access to quality educational materials can strengthen academic performance and improve understanding of clinical concepts. Well-equipped libraries also support future generations of students, allowing schools to maintain stronger learning environments for years to come. Better-prepared graduates contribute to safer healthcare services and improved patient outcomes in communities across Nigeria.

We remain committed to implementing this project and continue working toward the resources needed to launch the first phase. As progress is made, we look forward to sharing updates, photographs, and stories from the schools and students who will benefit from this support.

Thank you for helping strengthen nursing and midwifery education and supporting the next generation of healthcare professionals.

Warm regards,

Ugbede-Ojo Dominic Kadiri
