From essentials like nourishing food, soft beds and medication - to the upkeep of living spaces and equipment for enrichment activities, the ongoing monthly cost are high. The stray cat population in Romania is growing significantly. Female cats typically produce 4-6 kittens per litter, and over their lifetime can have anywhere between 3-7 litters. Numbers are growing, but locals don't see this as a problem due to their abilities in deterring rodents. Life on the streets is brutal, and without warmth, nutrition and care, many innocent kittens are born with disabilities, whilst older cats are in poor health and suffer age related illnesses.
Thanks to wonderful supporters dedicated to helping cats, ROLDA built a shelter for disabled and senior cats. Here they live in safety and comfort, and receive the specialised care they desperately need. Running costs for the shelter are high at $50,000 per year. Donations will ensure we can be there for our current cat residents, and welcome even more that need us. From food and water supply to keeping the heating on during cold Romanian winters, gifts are crucial to keep us running.
The cats in our care can experience warmth, security and safety for the first time, and live out their remaining years peacefully. Cats prefer routine and are not as adaptable to change like dogs. Therefore providing routine and consistent care for these sweet and vulnerable souls is so important. They can socialise with humans and fellow cat residents, which is crucial for their well-being.
