On 6 February 2018, a 6.4 magnitude earthquake hit Hualien, Taiwan. Till February 12th, 16 deaths have been reported, with more than 295 injured, 1 people reported missing. The Mustard Seed Mission (MSM) workers are cooperating with Hualien government for the relief works, including resident settlement and visitation. MSM will open Vocational Training Center space for earthquake affected people and help Mustard Seed Youth Home and children who live there for recovery.
After earthquake, affected people in Hualien need place to stay because of house damaged or destroyed. Also, children in Mustard Seed Youth Home (a children's home in Hualien) stayed and set tents outside for several days because of the earthquake. Mustard Seed Youth Home's houses are damaged and it is unsafe for habitation. People are terrified and hopeless, need caring, counseling, and daily supplies to go through this difficulty.
1. MSM will provide space of lodging areas in the Vocational Training Center for people to live in or set tents during temporary settlement. 2. MSM will provide people who are in need clothes, coats, blankets, and comforters, etc. 3. MSM workers will visit affected people regularly, care about people's needs, and provide assistance to people. 4. Safe habitation for children in Mustard Seed Youth Home.
It is expected to provide around 120 beds in the Vocational Training Center during temporary settlement. MSM has 54 service centers and serves 434 children in Hualien area. We are able to connect and deliver resources & services to needy people quickly in Hualien. Besides, we will serve total 32 children in Mustard Seed Youth Home such as caring, counseling, and safe habitation.
