A phone call from a sobbing woman in Donetsk, eastern Ukraine, to ChildAid's partners:
“Are you the volunteers? “
“Yes”
“I am with my granddaughter in the hospital, I need your help! I do not know who to call for help! The hospital gave your number”
“Don’t worry we are here for you. Where are you?”
“In Donetsk. Sasha is 9 years old. She has asthma and atopic dermatitis and needs two types of hormones. It’s too expensive. I can’t get them now. Her skin cracks, bleeds and she’s in pain. I spent 1,500 hryvna (£45) but nothing helped. I feel so helpless!”
Sasha’s life now depends on Love Without Borders (ChildAid's EUREKA partner). They bought her all the medicines and will keep bringing them so long as they are blessed to be able to do so.
We deliver life-saving insulin into eastern Ukraine as it is either too expensive, inferior quality, or not available in Donetsk and Luhansk.
Alexander is typical of help provided. He suffers from diabetes and ended up in hospital due to doctors prescribing him medications that raised his blood sugar. Improper treatment caused hunger and thirst.
After Love Without Borders gave him the proper medicines he began to feel much better. His parents do not work because there is little available and are in dire financial straits so can not buy expensive drugs.
