The project aims at economic empowerment of 50 urban vulnerable women who are involved in small to medium enterprises (SMEs) that are facing extinction due to high rate of inflation and economic collapse in Juba as a result of the prolonged war. The project, therefore, focuses on restoring the livelihood of the 50 urban vulnerable women. The impact of the project are: improved nutritional, reduced poverty, women ability to support children education. The estimated budget is USD 50,000/-
Economic vulnerability or urban poverty of 50 women due to loss of livelihood caused prolonged war which resulted to economic collapse and super-inflation thus rendering urban poor women economically powerless. This resulted in poor nutritional status, poor health status, economic powerlessness and most children from poor urban families to leave schools and went to the street to make end meets.
The project will provide training on business or entrepreneurship skills, provide some business start-up capital for the 50 project beneficiaries to start and/or restart their lost businesses or SMEs; and provide business development services (BDS) for the growth of the businesses. Once implemented, the women will regain their lost economic power, improve their nutritional status and support their children's education.
It is expected that the long-term impact of the project is reduced poverty among the urban vulnerable women, improved nutritional status, support to children's education, creation of employment, strong entrepreneurial culture/spirit among the women and economic growth of South Sudan. Also sharing of success stories through the media would motivate other women to get involved in business thus reducing the reliance on the government and NGOs for employment.
