Economic Self-sufficiency for 280 Senegalese Women

“We have learned many skills that we can use throughout life.” Aissata, a mother of five living in Fass Kane, participates in both the gardening and poultry cooperatives in her community.  To fight poverty in her home and in Fass Kane, Aissata is applying the knowledge she learned from CREATE! to expand sustainable gardening and chicken production in her village.

Your continued support for CREATE! is generating sustainable livelihoods for rural women through poultry production in Senegal. Since our last report in March, our five poultry cooperatives have continued to expand production and thrive thanks to your generous donations. Although Senegal is currently experiencing dry weather and extreme heat, diligent cooperative members visit their chicken coops multiple times each day to care for the growing chicks. Chickens are mature and ready for sale in local markets after 45 days of production.

Your help is still needed! Your generosity can help other communities start their own poultry cooperatives. Please help villages in rural Senegal gain new skills and livelihoods through poultry production. With your generous donation, we can help other women like Aissata achieve their dreams!

Fama Diagne has dreams of a prosperous future. A member of the poultry cooperative in the community of Fass Koffe, Fama praises CREATE!’s hands-on approach to development and dedication to community participation.  She hopes to one day “build a large chicken coop in my compound and sell chickens in local markets.”

Since our last report in December, our poultry cooperatives in the villages of Fass Kane, Fass Koffe, and Ouarkhokh have continued to expand production and thrive due to your generous donations.  The communities of Diender and Thieneba have also established their own poultry cooperatives and are just beginning their first round of poultry production. In February, CREATE! field technicians worked with cooperative members to build poultry sheds in both communities using hand-made cement bricks and other materials.  Both cooperatives are excited to acquire the skills and supplies they needed to excel in this new economic opportunity.
