By Samira Bintay Hasib | Project contributor
Duck
The costal people in Bangladesh are very poor. Due to the geographical position and environment the life of the costal people is very difficult. Most of them depends on forest for their livelihood. Involving them in different livelihood approach can reduce the forest disturbance. Duck farming can reduce the poverty of costal people. Duck needs water source for swimming. Our coastal area has so many natural water channels, pond, and other water sources. Which is very helpful for duck farming. As these sources are full of natural resources. So, the need of commercial feed and home-made feed is low. That’s why they don’t need to investment a lot.
From this duck they get eggs and meat. Which is a great source of protein and this duck and egg has huge market demand. For improving the livelihood approach BEDS helps to the coastal people on duck farming. The tourist who comes to visit the our eco village can enjoy this duck farming.

A new livelihood approach by bee keeping
By Samira Bintay Hasib | Project contributor
Bee case
The coastal community depends on Sundarbans resources for their livelihood. Many of them harvest honey from the Sundarbans. The bee called Aice Dorseta found in Sundarbans area. These bees are collect honey from the flowers of the Sundarbans and help to maintain the bio diversity. As we know bee are the most important part of the earth. They maintain the re- generation process of the plants. They help to pollinate the flowers when they collect pollen from the flowers.
The earning of the coastal areas people is very low. So when they collect honey from the forest they destroy the whole hives for getting maximum honey. It has a huge negative impact on environment, ecology and biodiversity.
For solving that problem or for their livelihood improvement, we gave training to 15 people on bee keeping. By doing this activity the dependency of the local people on mangrove honey will be reduced.

Sandy Road
In southern part of Bangladesh (Banisanta Union, Dacope Upazila, Khulna),we have a beautiful campus called BANOJIBI. In future it can be a tourist attraction place. Where people can stay and can enjoy its beauty of nature, the local food, culture and last but not the list is Sundarbans. Sundarbans is very close to this village. From here they can easily visit the Sundarbans.
Tourist are come to visit the campus from different places in the county and different parts of the world. For giving more comfort to the tourist, we try to give a new look to this Eco Village campus. Before this, the roads were made by sand. Due to this sandy road movement was difficult and because of wind we have to frequently clean the campus. But now solving this problem these sandy roads are going to be under construction by RCC. This will be very helpful for the tourist to walk around the Eco Village campus.
