Dear Friends, Partners, and Supporters,

We at Empower Develop Dignify (EDD) are delighted to share our latest progress with you. Your unwavering support and commitment make our journey possible, and we invite you to stand with us as we continue transforming lives.

Our primary commitment remains steadfast: empowering children from underprivileged families by providing them with a strong foundation for a brighter future. Many children and youth face challenges that hinder their potential due to difficult family circumstances. At EDD, we choose to create opportunities and make a difference despite these hardships.

Current Updates

Student Enrollment: EDD currently accommodates 125 students, with 52% boys and 48% girls. We have three pre-primary classes and two primary classes, with a vision to expand to Primary Six in the next four years. Our approach is to grow slowly but steadily to ensure sustainable progress.

School Reopening: Our second term began on January 8, 2025, after a two-week seasonal break.

Classroom Safety Measures: In early February 2025, we experienced a ceiling collapse in one of our pre-primary classrooms. Thankfully, no children were harmed. As a precaution, we are now working to remove all preschool ceiling roofs to ensure safety for our students and enhance the long-term sustainability of our facilities.

Teacher Training & Learning Approach

EDD successfully completed its Induction Workshop on February 13, 2025, which began in November 2024. The training focused on equipping educators with the right skills to implement the learning-through-play approach, a child-centered method that enhances engagement and understanding.

This innovative teaching approach was developed by Teach Rwanda, an organization that has partnered with EDD since mid-2023. We were honored to host this training, which benefited EDD teachers, the Head Teacher, Bright School teachers, and Teach Rwanda partner schools, with a total of 14 participants receiving training.

As a new teacher at EDD, having joined in October 2024, I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to be part of this inspiring team. The last three months have been an incredible learning experience, and I am excited to contribute to the growth of EDD while learning and implementing its impactful teaching methods.

Fundraising & Support

Through GlobalGiving, EDD successfully raised $7,000, which enabled us to purchase essential school supplies such as notebooks and pens, as well as cover key expenses, including classroom renovations. The funds played a crucial role in repairing the collapsed preschool classroom, ensuring a safe learning environment for our children. We didn't manage to build a playground since the budget didn't allow us to do so. We still expect to raise more funds in this coming little by litle campaign where we expect to raise around 10 thousands in total and allow us to make a playgroup and contribute to the education supplies needed on daily school needs.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to each of you who contributed. Your support has made a tangible difference, and we invite you to continue this journey with us. Stay connected with EDD and consider supporting our upcoming GlobalGiving campaign—every contribution, big or small, helps us move forward!

Thank you for being part of the EDD family. Together, we can empower, develop, and dignify the lives of many.
