Through the Vulnerable Youth Learning and Education Project, the Mustard Seed Youth Home will help at least 32 vulnerable youths to gain more chances to explore their potentials and advantages. This project will not only enhance their school performances but also give them opportunities to learn talents and explore their own interest. The project will also help youths to learn and practice social skills through experiential education in order to improve their social adaptability.
Youths in the Mustard Seed Youth Home are from dysfunctional families and lack supportive relatives. More than 50% youths had stopped going to school before they came to the Mustard Seed Youth Home. Besides, the location of youth home at Hualien is very remote, so that the education resources are far less than cities and are hard to be reached out. Thus, the learning outcomes of youths in the Youth Home is bad and the chance to explore their talents, interest, and potentials is less.
This project will recruit teachers and tutors to educate and teach these vulnerable youths with a regular schedule in 2017. There are three portions of the project: 1) "after-school tutoring class": to focus on enhancing their learning and application of Chinese, English, and Math subjects; 2) "talent class": to help youths to explore their potentials and talents, including painting, music, sports, etc; 3) "experiential education camp": to develop their social adaptability through team building.
Through this project: 1) 80% youths will enhance their understanding on the subjects of Chinese, Math, and English and will generate confidence and interest to the subjects. 2) 80% youths' self-confidence will be improved and 70% youths' self-identity will be well-developed. 3) 80% youths' ability of frustration tolerance will be improved and 70% youths will be able to clearly express their heart issues and find the solutions. 4) 70% youths are able to release their stress in a proper way.
