AFRICAN ANGELS NEWSLETTER
April 2024

This month, we welcomed a fellow Aussie, Visible Learning Consultant Shane Crawford. This was a real treat for the team who have worked with Shane remotely for the past two years. You can read more about his visit in our full newsletter, but one of the powerful things Shane did was to ask the children (without the adults present) what they think of African Angels, what an African Angels learner looks like, and what they like about school.

Here are some of their 'golden statements' captured by Shane:

  • “You need to make mistakes; otherwise, you don’t learn”.
  • “I am courageous to be the best I can be”.
  • “Our teachers really do like us, actually they really do love us”. (My favourite)
  • “My Mum tells me that I need to learn and do my best so I don’t have the tough life she has had”.
  • “I want to be a doctor to help everyone feel better in Chintsa”.
  • “I love learning and school”.
  • “I sometimes just want to stay here instead of going home”.
  • “I like knowing what we are learning as it helps me improve”.
  • “You need to be courageous to be a better learner”.
  • “If you are not courageous, you will fail in life”.
  • “Our teachers help us daily and I thank them for that”.
  • “I need to try my best…. I need to try my best to buy a house and live a better life”.
  • “My teacher is always there for me and will listen to my problems”.
  • “If you don’t make mistakes, how can you learn”.
  • “This is the best school in the whole world, I learn here”.

Statements like these are an incredible ode to our teachers, support staff, interns and leadership team. Thank you!

Needless to say there was many a tear shed in the staff room when Shane gave the teachers this feedback.

Thank you for your support of our amazing children, and the team who love them.

Warm regards,
Lou Billett
